Drilled and grooved discs - noise when braking

Featured Replies

Just checking but since fitting my drilled and dimpled brakes I get a strange noise when braking, can hear it louder with the windows open.

Hard to describe but sort of a chugging sound getting slower as I slow down.

I assume it's just the brake pads scuffing past the drilled and grooved bits on the discs but thought i best check incase it's one of the backing plates or somthing and needs stripping down again.

Only done around 100 mile and I can see they havnt bedded in 100% yet as well.

It's the grooves rather than the drillings you can hear, it will get a bit quieter but it'll always be louder than plain discs.

They do make a whooshing noise when braking,

Brilliant, cheers.

Doesn't bother me or anything, can't hear it with the windows up, it's quiet really, just aslong as its normal :)

They will quieten down, I have ebc dimpled and grooved for my brembos and first few 100 moles they made the swoosh noise but since then have been quiet.

My rear disks on the other hand sound worn and cause mooing but in a revolutionary way (part of the disk is further out than the rest)

Mine used to sound like a tube train coming into a station. Were only grooved... Sound will depend on wear and crap if any builds up in the grooves.

I'll do some more miles yet anyway, I can see on the disc that the very bottom of the pad hasn't made 100% contact yet so still needs more bedding in.

I'll do more miles and some heavier braking then blast them out with the air line then.

Cant say I've noticed any increase in noise with my slotted ebc usr discs. Then again my car is pretty noisy to sit in lol.
