Rear Windscreen Wiper won't switch off!

Featured Replies

A new variation on the old 'knackered rear wiper' theme: my rear wiper will not switch itself off. At first, it just sprang to life intermittently. Recently, however, it switched itself on, and never stopped. For 3 days. As if that wasn't bad enough, the front wipers decided that this seemed like a fabulous wheeze, and started switching themselves on as well! Luckily their Terminator-style independence of though was only sporadic and after some threats and swearing they would stop.

Thanks to this wonderful forum I managed to locate the fuses and by a method of trial and error finally found the fuse controlling the rear wiper. This means I now have no rear wiper, but this is much preferrable to the horrendous grinding noise it was beginning to make. Also, the front wipers are now working normally again.

Is it the motor? Is it the fuse? Has my car gone senile? Is it punishing me for having done over 100k miles in 5 years?

At a guess you will probably need a new column switch assembly..... :thumbdwn:

we have a fleet of v w caddy vans and frequently have the same problem

with the rear wipers

i would suggest that you need a new motor

The amazing thing is, even having done over 20,000 miles a year for 5 years, the engine still purrs, and the odd electrical wonk aside, it still drives like a dream. I do think that I might get a diesel next time though... ;)

Had the same thing with the back wiper in my Octy vRS..............New Motor.
