Columbus CD Laser

Featured Replies

Taken ownership of a Skoda Octavia today. It has the Columbus sat nav unit, but when I put a cd in, sounds like it is skipping/ scratching noise.

Sounds like a faulty laser, is this replaceable?

Replacement  drive would be simpler than trying to replace the laser. Check the link in my sig.

There isn't anything wrong with the HDD, I don't think. The maps work fine.

When i put in an audio CD, keep getting the scratched CD sound, but the disc is fine and have tried different discs.

Ahh, you mean the DVD drive?

Yes, the dvd drive. I have a spare for sale which is a 5 minute job to change.

I'm going to try a CD Cleaner first and see if that solves the problem. If not, then I will be certainly asking you for the drive.

Will try it at the weekend.

I have the columbus unit too. I put a cd and dvd in it at weekend and it does sound like it's skipping / re-reading constantly my bmw business head unit did something similar for cds at least so not overly concerned.
