Rear seat protector for dog

Featured Replies

I've scoured ebay and Amazon but nothing jumped out at me as a good quality waterproof cover that allows a seat belt dog harness to be fitted. Anyone got any recommendations?

Thanks.

I have a Wagtails dog hammock but it doesn't seem to be available any more. The hammock in the link below is similarish in design but not as heavy duty. Features to look out for are heavy duty stitching on the straps since these could have to bear the weight of the dog. (The starps on a Pets at Home hammock tore loose within days). Side panels keep the door cards clean and if they have win zips this allows easy exit for the dog. A centre zip is also handy to halve the size of the hammock - as I now do having gone from 2 dogs to one.

Hi,

Ref: Dog Cover - Hamock,

I got a really good one in France from Carfour supermarket about 14Euros for the large size with zips for folding rear seats.

The material is very hard wearing and can be scrubed and hosed off.

Hope this helps

Surprisingly, Halfords had some good looking covers, i bought a couple made by some french company. Not cheap, but sturdy and waterproof. I bought the bench cover and the hammock as sometimes dog on her own, other times with one or two of us sit with her.

I went through the same search a few months back because I needed something waterproof that still let me clip my dog’s harness into the seat belt properly. One thing I’d definitely recommend is looking for covers with zippered seat belt openings rather than just loose Velcro gaps, they stay in place much better once the dog starts moving around.

I ended up pairing a heavy-duty rear seat hammock with a proper harness from Supreme Dog Garage, and that combo has worked really well on longer drives. The harness attachment lines up cleanly through the seat cover openings, and the back seats stay protected even after muddy walks. Also agree with the earlier comment about reinforced stitching on the straps, cheap ones tear surprisingly fast.

If you’ve got a larger dog, side flaps on the cover are worth having too. They save the door panels from scratches and wet fur more than you’d think.
