Cambelt milage!

Featured Replies

Hi all, I have recently been in touch with my local dealer about changing the cam belt on my 2011 Octavia 1.6 Diesel. They inform me that the the change date is every five years or 120,000 miles

Now if this is correct given the price it costs I am happy with this. BUT this seems very high milage what do other owners think. At the moment I have 41,000 on the clock.

I think you'll find that should be "5 years or 120_000 miles, whichever is less".

agreed, whichever comes first

As your car is approaching 5 years old and only has 41 k miles on it I wouldn't worry about the mileage between changes, even if it was half the quoted 120k you would still hit the time limit first.

Seem to recall reading somewhere that it's every 150,000km (93,000 miles)

The mileage varies from model to model, production year to production year.

Two Octavia's built in the same year with the same engine can have different cambelt mileage limits.

It's always best to check with Skoda UK quoting your VIN.

The factory doesn't say anything about age interval, it's only the importers in the various countries generating revenue for the authorized workshops.

210.000 km for the Common Rail diesel engines.

I had mines done at 115k miles and car was 5 years old

There isn't a blanket mileage for all CR engines.

This is partly why there is so much confusion around cambelt intervals on the internet.

My CR140 is 225,000 km (140,000 miles).

As mentioned Skoda UK also impose a time interval too. Whether you agree with this or not is a separate topic and one that has been hotly debated many times before as it divides opinion.

All cars registered before September 2010 - 4 years

All cars registered after September 2010 - 5 years

A lot of other EU countries do not impose a time limit, only mileage. You need to decide for yourself whether it is a money making scheme by Skoda UK or not.

The only definitive way to know for sure what the mileage is for your car is to contact Skoda UK and quote your VIN. Even the dealers often get it wrong.
