Octavia Mk1 - sidelights & headlights

Featured Replies

Hi all, I am not impressed with the standard bulbs in my mk1 Octavia.

Can anyone offer some suggestions as to the best replacements offering greater light & distance please.

Thanks.

+1 for nigt breakers. And google the toothpaste lens cleaning technique... makes a difference.

Yeah nightbreakers init, Phillips also good but cost slightly more, some people like the Halfords own brand but nearly 20 quid each? Nightbreakers can be had for much less on ebay.

I have the halfords extreme brilliance and they are much brighter than the stock ones, but i cannot compare with the others as i haven't used them yet...

They're always on buy one get one free at £20 for the pair. If you have a local motor factors near you then go for the others mentioned in this thread.

Another vote for Nightbreaker+(+).

Also a recommendation for www.powerbulbs.co.uk as a supplier since they often have a BOGOF on headlight bulbs plus free Philips "bluevision" sidelight bulbs.

Philips Extreme Vision 130% in mine and they are brilliant. More yellow then white/blue. Sidelights are Philips bluevision. They just look like blue but they are yellowish as well.

Not in my local Halfords, tight gits, I had a bulb go, thought time for an upgrade on the new car, popped into Halfords, not today I thought...

I did check online and it has the offer on there.

It's personal preference really. Theyre definitely an improvement. Will try the others next time and see what difference they make

Ah yeah I would have got some if they were nightbreaker on ebay money for sure, but I wasn't going to pay 40 quid in store, needed them that day and for the rest of the week too so couldn't wait.

I see to recall, the philips ones were a tad better (brighter) than the osram nb's, but cost about 30-50% more and... didnt last as long, as in 12months doing well. My first set of nb's lasted at least 2yrs..

Not sure if the Phillips are much brighter than osram but I thought they burned a bit cooler so should have lasted longer? But as you say they are more expensive anyway. Don't think there's much wrong with longevity of osram at all mind and if you know where to get them they're less than 20 a pair anyway.

  • 1 month later...
