Cruise control

Featured Replies

I passed my test in 1952 and was with the engines of the day quite familer in stripping down to almost the last bolt. Today I open the bonnet see if engine is still there then close it.So cruise control.I use ours a lot and thought came to me about engines going at nigh same on revs. Back in those days you were told to slacken off on throttle to make oil flush the bores every now and again on fast runs. My journey of 85 miles is mainly on A21-M25-M11 and cruise control is on most of the way, set about 62mph. So are modern engines and oil do not require the backing off the throttle?. Over to the experts.

I've been driving for 15 years on all sorts of stuff. And I've never heard of that for a 4 stroke engine. Personally I would just drive it and not worry as long as it gets upto temp the oil will do its job and there are squirters under the Pistons to fire oil upwards. cruise control adjusts the throttle all the time depending if your going up or down hill and if windy gusts are pushing or slowing the car so it's never really doing the same thing all of the time.
