Filled up my AdBlue for the first time today

Featured Replies

So after 4700miles my MFD was saying only 700 left and I had to give it a go..

I tried googeling a BP that had a AdBlue pump but no joy so plan B.

A 10ltr container cost £11 from a BP.

It comes with a foot long flexable screw on extension nozzle that fitted inside the tank and allowed me to keep the container well away from the car.

Didn't know where to put the filler cap and was worried about grit getting in the system or drips if I put it on the car roof so put it in my coat pocket, not ideal.

First go saw a pathetically slow flow so I lowered it down and put a hole in the top of the container with my penknife.

The 10ltrs then emptied in under 45 seconds with a few drops landing on my boots and hand from where the nozzle fits to the bottle. Quite a lot of drops towards the end.

Removing the nozzle from the tank without drips was trickey. Some may have landed inside the filler cap and on the wing.

I'd carried this out on the forecourt of a carwash so put it straight through in case of drips.

The Mfd showed 6000miles till the next fill.

It was a bit of a pain but bearable four times a year.

Adblue wont damage paint work or anything really on the outside of the car.

Is there an option to fill Adblue into the tank at a pump in filling stations?

I have seen adblue pumps in some of the large Applegreen motorway services (in the truck section)

If that's true then it is both literally and figuratively a piece of p*ss

A colleague fills his Insignia at BPs you have to get them to switch the pump on, it's about 60p there.

AdBlue is a UREA solution. Urea is produced synthetically from ammonia and carbon dioxide (CO2). The raw material for ammonia is natural gas. AdBlue is, in principle, liquid fertilizer (16N), consisting of 32.5% UREA and 67.5% deionized water. AdBlue is described in ISO 22,241th

4700 miles ain't alot when Skoda claim 18000 miles!

My mates 190 Passat needed AdBlue refill @ 6000 miles and he drives like Miss Daisy

I´m sure the wording is "...UP TO 18000 miles": I depends much on your driving style.

My S3 showed 7,000 miles at new and is down to 3,000 to go at 3,800 on the car. Nearest Adblue station with a pump is 20 miles away! I think the tank is 13 litres?

Saw a note in another thread saying the 2.0 Tdi 150ps on the MkIIIs does not have the ad blue system but I remember at time of ordering that the dealer mentioned the car does use ad blue. Can anyone confirm which is correct?

I can confirm that my SEL Exec 2.0 TDI 150PS DSG does not have Ad Blue.

Thanks for the very swift reply! Glad I didn't order the 10ltr bottle I was thinking of getting...

The 4x4 variants of that engine have AdBlue. I noted there was no AdBlue filler next to the fuel filler on the 150 TDi SEL demonstrator at my local dealership. They couldn't tell me why the 4x4 had it and not this one (this was explained in another thread on here).

I can see a common thread here on dealership staff and their (lack of!) product knowledge.

In the brochure, the engines that use AdBlue will have the letters 'SCR' next to them.
