Airtec ordered! fitting advice?

Featured Replies

Ill give writing a quick basic guide ago. - basically remove all your old stuff, intercooler and pipework.

Remove the bumper - This needs the drivers side lug cutting off. the mounting backets are sort of hot glue welded into place so you can trim the glue down and cut the bit of a bracket off, giving a much cleaner job, quite easy as well.

Remove the crash bar - This needs part of the drivers side cutting down, only the lip at the back really but its still a little bit awkward if you dont have the proper tools.

Drill the radiator housing - This is fairly east but you will need a large drill bit, bigger than the torx screw so around 12mm. hold the brackets up to the housing and mark roughly where the screw holes on, drill them, remove the screws (think they hold the A/C condensor) put the bracket over and put the screws back in, thats the brackets attached!

Cutting the radiator housing - This means cutting the drivers side lug off also and trimming some of the passenger side, if your carefull you can keep some of the passenger side just enough to keep the mounting bracket to secure the bumper.

Fit the intercooler - With the brackets in place you should be able to mount the intercooler. With it in place you should be able to mark the crach bar better.

Fit the boost pipes - With the intercooler in palce you shoud be able to mock up the boost pipes, fairly easy job and should be straight farward. the airtec kit stops just behind the headlight and uses the standard top boost pipes im sure.

Altering the wire for the MAP sensor might be needed, cant rememebr for this kit but again straight farward enough.

Cheers Hutchy! And everyone for your advice.. I'll let you know when I'm doing it Coskev.. and I'll shout for help should I need it..

:)

I don't want to start another thread, and it concerns the vehicle so you guys maybe able to shed some light. I've been organising all the cars service history into a nice folder this morning.

From 2007 too 2013 the car was serviced via Robert Eardley & Sons in Crewe. On all the service receipts - it details PDOil - Helix Diesel 5w/40.

Is that not Shell oil? If so that's not 505.01 rated is it?

As Kev says, I've done a couple of these now. 2nd one (Tom's 1756) was a lot easier than mine, as I used mine as a guide to see where to cut out. Still took me the best part of the day to do a neat job though.

I'm down the road from Kev. I'd do it for 50 quid mate's rates if you're stuck! Oh and buy a Seat Ibiza crash bar for definite too - makes it much easier.

Oh and when you've got the kit I'd post up the brackets that mount the intercooler. When I got mine I noticed that one of the supplied brackets was a copy and did not clear the air con pipe. Pretty poor copy of a part to be honest - obviously it hadn't been tested. So got in touch and managed to sort one through a Seat dealer. There were problems in the supply chain for this particular part at the time - not sure if it's sorted itself out or not?...

When I fitted the second one I removed the front panel and cut it off the car. It's much easier to do when it's off, as there's no risk of damaging anything you're not meant to! On the second one I did, the panel went back on and fitted first time spot on :)  Can be a bit of a fiddle to get it back on without another pair of hands though.

In fact... IF my engine turns out to be buggered then I may have a pre-cut front panel for sale! As would be doing a different intercooler setup for the new engine.

Just to jump on the end of this thread... Thinking of getting a fmic in the future, would anyone be willing to basically fit mine for a fee, obviously. I'm a decent diy-er but this sounds beyond me. In Birmingham but would be willing to drive to you if easier... Cheers, Tom.

I'm not a trained mechanic and did this on my own. If you're a handy person it's not overly difficult.

Personally, think you're expecting a bit much for someone to do this free due to the time involved :)

Edit... Ignore my last paragraph as I've just re-read your post now I've stopped walking and I see you offered a FEE and not ask for it free :p
