Hi guys I need to set the ignition timing on my 1996 skoda felicia pick up but can't find any information on it can anyone help please

Hi Skaddyben

I've read your PM and I will reply in here so that you have more chances to get good solutions.

You say:

I'm struggling with my pick up its bogs down and has a loss of power at like 50-60 mph I have to keep tapping the pedal then it works fine . I have changed the fuel filter, fuel pump, throttle body, coolant temp sensor. I think it might be ignition do you have any information on the timing set up on them. It idles and runs fine until it get warm and i to 50-60 mph

You didn't say what engine has your pick-up so I had to look in your other posts. It is a 136B (135B ?) with Bosch Mono-Motronic injection.

For now I have two questions:

  • How did the problem start? Was it sudden? Was it gradual? Any prior repair / event that you think might be related?
  • Does the engine have a power flat-spot at 50-60 mph? Or can't you go faster than 60 mph?

PS

The ignition timing can't be adjusted.

Hi buddy thanks for your reply. It's 136b. I bought the pickup and it did it when I go down the road I thought it would be a quick fix but obviously not I have changed all the fuel side, pump, filter, throttle body all I can think is ignition side. I thought you would be able to adjust the timing as its on a dizzy but obviously not

And it drives fine just when the accelerator pedal is one position / I'm sat at good steady speed and don't need to accelerate it bogs down and I have to keep tapping the pedal slightly then it's fine again I'm really lost with it

A good start would be to pay attention to my questions and eventually answer to them.

Also, could you say which exact model the Motronic is please?

(Ricardo, I have a specific manual for some models of Motronic, and the only real differences from car to car are throttle linkage and mapping. Also, on other cars the model or sub-model can vary with date of manufacture.)

First thing is get it plugged in to vcds and see what faults there are.

It should not have 2 fuel filters just one on the ns front of the tank so I would put that back how it should be.

The distributer on these is purely to send the spark to the correct cylinder it does nothing to the timing the crank sensor on top of the bell housing does the timing and there is no adjustment.

Possibly a coil or amplifier problem

Plugged in a snap on solus ultra and the is two codes sorted.

1, o2 sensor (g39) no signal- intermittent

2, o2 sensor (g39) short with power - intermittent.

Unless the wiring has an obvious, visible issue, the oxygen sensor is faulty. That could partially explain the symptoms.

I'm going to do some wiring checks tomorrow I hope it comes back with something finger crossed
