Hi all,

Could I possibly beg the indulgence of all you knowledgeable guys on here to give me a go for it / don't waste your money opinion on the 4 items listed below for detailing brushes.

I have some cheap ones that I bought from various stores, that have started to break up and lose their bristles after very little use, so I am looking to upspec if I can.

As I am not a pro like some of you guys, your opinions would really be appreciated, and as always, many thanks in advance.

Phil

Hey Phil.

What will you be using them for?

I haven't used any of the ones you have listed, but I have used Vikan for a few of my wheel brushes. They're decent quality and reasonably priced!!

I'm sure the other guys will be along soon!

Hi Hunty278,

The group of brushes I was going to use for engine bays and awkward areas of mechanical stuff.

The other ones I was going to use for interior stuff, although I was going to settle on one of the 2 retractable brush options, as they appear to do the same thing - just down to which is better really.

Thanks for the brand recommendation, much appreciated.

My options would be as follows.

Interior - i use the Meguiars slide lock - and its lasted a good 5+ years so far....

Engine bay - i have a set of standard detailing brushes as below...

plus i re-use a set of wheel woolies inc angled version for the rest...

Another awesome little brush for inside dash or outside badge cleaning, excess wax removal... is from Clean Your Car....

Thanks for the reply, I've just checked with Meguiars via the DW forum as I couldn't find one in stock via google, and they tell me the slide lock has been a discontinued line for some time now, so back to plan B for that area I think, and suggestions for alternatives please.

I already have the double ended CYC brush and thinks it's brilliant. I have similar brushes to the ebay set albeit much cheaper quality, but I was ideally looking for something with a bit of a crank in the handle to get into the difficult bits, would wheel woolies do that or should I look for a dedicated brush?.

Many thanks for taking the time to reply, I really appreciate it.

Hi Phil,

Happy to help as always....

I really cant believe the Meg's Slide Lock is discontinued. Great product!!!!

Perhaps i should try and get some geezer on AliExpress to knock up a new tool for them.... :giggle:

Glad you already use the CYC brush - an invaluable little tool for sure.

Wheel woolies are great as the longer handles give good reach.

I have ordered the eBay retractable dash vent brushes before and they are OK;

but i have always gone back to my trusty Meg's Slide Lock in the end.

I'll perhaps get chance later today..... and look through some other options for you.

Cheers,

Ste.

Hi Phil,

I've got some of the brushes below which are cheap, but are good for engine bays and things like brake callipers. sorry I can't post the link but Brisky doesn't want to let me do this since I uploaded windows 10 but if you search in ebay they should come up for you.

Yes, those are the ones, thanks very much. I don't know why windoze won't let me paste stuff on Brisky....it's rather frustrating.

p.s. Thanks for the heads up on the vikan long handled ones Phil- I've bought 2 for cleaning my bike.

Ok, just a little update to square stuff up for others looking in. As I wanted brushes with a crank for engine work, I ordered the Vikan kit - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/371327515265?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT , and can say the quality of them is good for the price, but just one little word of advice rather than warning,

If you order the whole kit like I did, then the picture perspective used to describe their length is a little flattering shall we say. The crank brushes are about 15 inches long, but the others are between 2 1/2 and 4 1/2 inches in length, apart from that, the quality of the brush and bristles is good.

I just thought for-armed is for-warned. I also ordered the brushes that Ade recommended, and they also look good for the price. Just looks like I might have to wait a while to use them as I have contracted an infection following my trip under the knife.

Hope it helps,

Phil.
