Speeding fine or ban

Featured Replies

Yeah they are only guidelines but they are fairly clear cut when they are used by the central ticket office and the Feds!

What you see in the guidelines is what you get unless you combine it with another road traffic act offence.

Madness! On my motorbike a few years back, I was caught doing and average speed of 77 in a 40 by a police motorcyclist (not bragging - I don't ride motorbikes any more the speed they offer is asking for trouble IMO!).

I was given the option of a RIDE course - the bike equivalent of a speed awareness course - no points or court appearance.

I guess I got off lucky - I pulled over straight away and was very polite and honest to the police officer - who was very polite and friendly to me. It was my first and only traffic offence.

The A55 is a 70 Mph I believe, I travel that road quite a lot

The A55 is mostly a 70mph, but the Penmarmarmarmite (or whatever it is )Tunnels, and I think the Menai bridge are 50s (or were the last time I was there).

The A55 through Colwyn Bay is 50 MPH.  Over 700 motorists were caught in just 3 week for speeding a while back in the 50 zone at Colwyn Bay. The N W police have a Zero tolerance to speeders

So we're pretty much in agreement that given how even the traffic density and junction spacings along that road are you need to pay more attention to speed limits that vary for no adequately explored reason than to other traffic?

I had to smile at the post with 77mph 'average' in a 40 mph limit. So what was the actual 'max' speed that was being done at some point to have a 77mph average. Or was it a constant 77mph recorded and called the average?

Hard to call really - I'd say I probably got up to around 85 at one point - so over twice the limit lol. When he asked me what sort of speeds I thought I was going, I said errm... 60?

Easily done on a motorbike really, I saw him behind me on a bike and thought he wanted to race  :peek:
