My own battery drain thread

Featured Replies

Hello

As I had a few battery issue myself followed the other thread with interest

Except in my case I use the car almost every day and has been starting, I know I'm mean to look at the wiring but its not actually given up on my yet so thats a round tuit

Its actually working every day so can't complain.

So just double checking my battery after getting home its 12.45v or something, so not too bad.

But though I'd entertain the current drain thing I read the other day

10A selection on multimeter.

On lock/unlock its flashing up to somethign like 10-15....then drop down to 0.15?

But if thats on the 10A range that sounds way too high? ( I didn't try any of the other selectors like the 200ma range as I'm not too familar with this UNi-T meter)

Worth further investigation ?

That was in the first 10-20s as its getting too cold/dark for much longer lol/ but could do more extended connected test at the weekend.

(first connected hits 0.4A then quickly dropped to around 0.12A after a second).

I think suggested by someone it probably drops lower after some time, I just can't believe it stays at this rate all the time or the battery would be flat every night

A recent thread included a comment that 0.05 amps was the expected figure however even your 0.12amp figure would take 20 days to flatten a 60ah battery. I would expect that the sort of fault that leaves e.g. a boot light switched on might be intermittent so you might not have caught it. I agree with a previous comment that you should identify if you have a battery issue or a leakage current issue by fully charging the battery and then leaving it for a few days with one main wire (earth) disconnected - then see how it reacts whaen you later reconnect and start the car.
