I got off lightly though as my tyre stayed inflated and all i got was a loud bang and mild vibration

there were 3 cars with recovery trucks in the next 500 yards and a double puncture victim a further 500 yards up the road.

these FR alloys are like hen's teeth so now to see about getting it straightened

probably be easier to just buy a set of 17" spiders

I also hate potholes.. over the years they cost me 3 tyres and wishone (that was technically a rock, but same difference)

I can sympathise with you on this one.  I love the look of my 19" wheels, but when I bought the car I discovered that the front wheels were both cracked and had to replace them.  I then managed to buckle another on a long road trip with the boot full of stuff.  If we lived in a country with beautifully smooth roads it wouldn't be an issue.  Seeing as we seem to have a road network made up mainly of holes I spend a lot of my time driving like a crazy drunk person to avoid yet another wheel related bill.

Reported three already tonight to North Yorkshire County Council via their website.

On this road which did this to my vRS a year or two ago...

I hate the blooming things....i travel down some very poor roads to work & back & my vrs isnt the best car for these roads, ive reported some to the council 2 weeks ago yet they still havent done anything about them.

Only ever had one puncture all thanks to hitting a rather large pot hole (hard to see them on an unlit road with some twerp shining high beams in your face) luckily no damage to the rim but it's hard work changing a tyre in the dark and rain.

There are, once again, hundreds around here thanks to poor patch repairs carried out in years past. Why we can't have them repaired properly I don't know but would surely save money long term.

Patchwork is like weeing in the wind, the roads round here are like a teenagers face

The road/track that leads to the farm I work on is a joke. there's a hole that's 4 inches deep at the side of the road. The road is now 2 feet wide at that point. And it's not the quietest single lane road around. Granted it's not a major road but they can't just act like it isn't here.

Give Council's more money and they will deal with it. Simple.

Or spend it on stupid projects like trams when there's perfectly serviceable buses (Edinburgh) and that's before you take into account any corruption.

Drivers aren't a priority anymore. The only way they'll listen is if people start complaining to their councilors and holding councils financially responsible!

You can track the progress of your reports on the NYCC website. The email they send you has a reference number on it, stick it in here...

I'm guessing you are talking about the same roads as me, between Easingwold and Strensall, I've reported loads.

This is just a few of the latest  :D

as expected the offending hole had been repaired when i drove in this morning

The problem is, that every Tom, **** or Harry can dig up our roads to lay cables, pipes, or even just for fun.

Once they are finished, they do a shoddy job of putting the road back to normal. So water get's in the cracks and freezes, and then pop, we have a pot hole. Sometimes they just break apart due to sheer volume of traffic. It makes me mad, as the roads I use to commute on our quite quickly going down hill as it seems that every week there is another set of temp lights being setup so another section can be dug up and then filled in and shoddily tarmacked over.

There should be tighter rules and councils should be checking the sections before the utility companies / contractors can sign off the job. As when Joe public run into problems with pot holes, it's the council who pay out.

Me - I hate pot holes and badly laid patches too!   We always get the crap rules from the EU, never the good stuff!   In Holland, Germany, Austria or Switzerland anyone working on the roads must put them back to the original condition afterwards - absolutely no patching allowed!   That's how it should be here!

?

How far do they put the road back as to the original condition.

If they have to cut in a 1 meter square do they rebuild the road by 1 meter square, 10 meters square or for a 1 kilometer length and the roads width?

I see what you mean, either way, there will be a join / weekspot.

A resurface is better than a patch. but you do get some patches that are obviosuly well done and last.

Of course you do the larger area properly, lots of labour, surveyors, measuring, inspecting and signing off,

and you can do a whole stretch to spec, and one bit sinks and get patched.,

sometimes before the Line Painters even arrive.

Then some squad come along, dry the area, cut some out, fill it and that is your patch, its fun to watch, job done.

Anyway, the UK Treasury can take all the Compensation that VW are paying in Back VED and Taxes and fix the roads.

Local Councils might have little to do with Trunk Roads where the Government already gave Contracts to big companies to maintain them.

You must be joking!!

When did you last drive in France, Belgium or Spain?

?? They are not Holland,Germany, Austria or Switzerland though, which are neat and conscientious,

they are France, Belgium and Spain that likes to spend the Taxes on important stuff, like low taxes on Food & Drink and Smokes.

Like many of us have seen before when the council resurface a large section of road and a month later a poxy utility company comes along and tears it up ruining the road again with patches, why can't they pre plan if work is going to be carried out do the work first then resurface it. Or is it to much involved. I think the patch work carried out should be cut out and squared off not just throw in the Tarmac and tap it in. Do a proper job first as last.

Eric Pickles MP has all the ideas and tells us what he will have done,

Yellow Lines removed, 20 minute parking on High Streets without tickets, parking spaces available, roads not dug up willy nilly,

and the Zebedee says 'Time for Tea' and Eric forgets because food is available.

Then the Secretary of State for Transport  Patrick McLoughlin MP is too busy doing his Fan Boy bit for Volkswagen

to remember he represents the UK Tax Payers and not the company he will probably end up in the employ of sometime after he leaves politics.

Ok, I'll get my crystal ball out and tell you when there's going to be a burst, for instance.  I'll book it to happen two days after the whole road has been resurfaced shall I ?

Cable / Broadband Installation,  new Gas / Water Mains works, major works and expense and road closure events which will take months and the likes can well be centrally logged and administered, and not carried out just after a full stretch of road has just had a major resurface with new Iron Works, Kerbs etc.

(As happened just beside where i am sitting now, just no Local Authority and Utilities Communications in a Digital age.)

And don't you just love it when they 'resurface' by basically just tipping some gravel onto the road and waiting for cars to smooth it out. While attempting to look blameless by putting 20mph signs out.

Alloy scraped (actually filed the metal away) after hitting a pothole on Friday morning going to work. Well and truly ticked off.

Can a alloy be repaired back to original after this or does it have to be replaced. Either way Glasgow City Council a claim for the damage is coming your way.
