Door seals?

Featured Replies

It seems my door seals have gone. The noise at speed is so loud, and occasionally I find that water has appeared in the rear footwells after heavy rain.

Is this something that's repairable, or worth doing on a car that's probably valued at £500?

Cheers!

Have a search for 'Leak' and 'door seals'. There is a plethora of information relating to the rear door seals, notorious for leaking. The fix is reasonably simple, the first door will take you maybe 30mins- an hour, the second less so as you have a better idea as to what you're doing.

If you have a set of screw drivers and a silicone gun. You're sorted.

Basically as above, plenty about the rear door seals letting in water, quite rare to hear someone complaing about the noise though so might be a different fault.

More likely to be the outer seal the one that is bonded to the chassis rather than the actual door.

I think I know what you mean.

It sounds like window is still open.

I have same on mine and its annoying especially on a motorway trip.

It's the thick rubber door seal around the front winodw on mine. But its not leaking.

Added to a long list of things I need to do.

I know of the road noise too, my friends sometimes say "is a window open or something?" When we're on the motorway. I put it down to the fact that it is an 8 year old, reasonably low budget car.

To the OP: how long have you had the car? And what car did you have previously?

It's basically this. I've had it just over a year and every motorway trip I find myself checking the windows, but it seems to be worse recently. It's my first car but my parents never had new/expensive cars so I've never been used to BMW levels of quietness anyway. Just pretty sick of not being able to enjoy music whilst I'm driving over 40mph though!

There must be something wrong. Mine's as quiet as a mouse at 70 mph apart from moderate road noise.

Yes 40mph and being unable to head the radio properly that does sound like something is amiss. Are you sure it is 'wind' noise rather than tyre noise, have you got good brand tyres on? I recently went from Toyo Proxes (which I thought were good tyres) to Goodyear Eagle F1, the reduction in road noise is definitely noticeable.

Doors probably require adjustment rather than the door seals unless you can see physical damage to them.

Can you not pull the seal away from the car half way, as if your removing it but leaving it still pushed on half way or somthing, then close the door and try, that should mean the door seal is 10mm thicker and should seal... If thats the problem of course.

It honestly sounds like the windows are open. I even find myself checking the air blower vents etc to see if there's a particularly large amount of air coming through.

Not quite sure I understand?

Right, okay, cheers!
