1.2 64bhp engine management light

I'm very new to Fabia's and got an older example (2005) 2 months ago which is used for mainly shorter local journeys.

The EML came on a couple of weeks ago, then 5-6 days later went off. It stayed off for a duration of about 8-9 days.

The same thing has just happened, although this time I consciously took it for a higher speed run when the light was showing, and after another journey a few hours later, the light went off. On the first occasion a friend put a basic code reader on and it showed an O2 sensor had recorded a fault that had subsequently been overridden.

Car has done 108K miles and still runs very well when the EML is on, and MPG is unaffected.

Any reason to investigate and try to correct? MOT is 9 months away.

Thanks

Could be a bad sensor or another fault with the engine making it run lean or rich which has triggered a code as the ECU knows the lambda reading is not what its expecting. Make sure the car is being maintained correctly, especially the spark plugs

Some cars have a post cat sensor aswell which I think monitors the CAT so if the code is for that sensor it could be that it needs a new cat or indeed that sensor could also be faulty.

Get a fault code scanner and it should tell you what's wrong with your car.

Some cars have a post cat sensor aswell

Those are rated as euro 3/4 or above for emissions standard for petrol engines.  Euro 2 and below had only preCAT O2 probes.

Mine has two O2 sensors.

It will be cat fouling, longer journeys will burn it clean, cook it up and it'll clear up.
