I'm a newbie to this forum and I was after some help with my dashboard for my 2001 Skoda Fabia 1.4 Classic Estate.

My fuel gauge is not working on my dashboard so I sent my dashboard off to a speacialist to fault find the problem, but the ended up shorting the speedometer when I had it returned. Now the Fuel gauge and speedometer do not work and I was advised to get a replacement dash from a brakers. Therefore I contacted Skoda first to find out the cost of a new dashboard and they put me through to a few Skoda dealers who want to charge me about

I know of at least 2 members who have recoded dash panels. Can anyone help this new member?

you need the pin code for the dash insert you brought from the breakers yard, then if you have vag-com you can program it to your car, if you can't get the pin code then supply the serial no of the dash to a skoda dealer then they will get it for you, using the keys from the donor won't help you because they won't turn in the ignition. hope this helps cheers k.

My mechanic took both dashboards to an authorised coder and they couldn't even fix it with the pin code. The dashboard I bought from the breakers had come from a 54 plate Fabia where as mine is a 51 plate. Does this matter? The connectors are the same. I don't have vag-com - where can I get it from and does it cost much?

Age shouldn't matter.

As big K says you need the 4 figure codes from both dashboards.

AFAIK Skoda still use the 4 digit code, which if you still have the original info would have come with the car.

You may also be able to get the 14 digit Immo ID from a sticker on the cluster if it is present.
