About to pull the trigger..................and then

Featured Replies

Well I had the model and spec all decided for the SIII, had the figures, even been approved for the finance, but in the end changed my mind.

I'm signing for an E Class on Monday. There are a few reasons for my change of mind.

The first being a lack of trust in VW group products at the moment due to dieselgate and the number of owners of the SIII getting poor performance figures, and the second being the direction I want my work to go in.

Don't misunderstand me, the new Superb is a REALLY good looking car, and offers interior space that is only bettered by cars in the segment above, but, and it's a big but, the work i am aiming for requires an executive vehicle and wether true or not, the Skoda isn't perceived as an executive vehicle.

I'm getting the SE premium and bar for one or two things it's pretty much neck and neck with the L+K for equipment levels and it's coming in under 30K.

I'm not leaving the fold entirely though because I will be keeping my SII because it's been such a brilliant car.

Good Job

You can tell from my threads that I have had nothing but trouble with mine but I think mine was a bad one in general.

In terms of executive, to me it felt every bit executive and more than a eclass but having said that in the world of executive travel the Superb would not be classed executive. If I wanted to book a executive car then I would expect a Eclass, A6 or Xf.

I'm not a big fan of the eclass due them only facelifting it in recent years and it was the reason I went for the superb.

Did you know that you can order the new eclass from next month. Completely different machine to the current one.

The Mercedes E class is about to be replaced. There are hefty discounts on outgoing model, Can get about £6-8k deposit contribution on PCP (which they call agility). It's on their finance examples on the m-b website.

There is a premium, and a premium plus pack, which gives you a whole group of options. Makes a good alternative to the high spec Superb as equipment levels are similar and with the prices are now similar (or cheaper), but the old E class is whilst stocks last and is old model so not so upto date as a S3. New E model is bound to be full price for a while.

If you ‘need’ / want the badge, then I guess it’s no contest. You’ll take the MB no matter what. I have plenty of friends and family like that.

Personally, I have no ‘executive’ pretentions and am therefore not bound by such constraints.

One important aspect not mentioned above when comparing prices: cost of servicing. It’s at least double every time you visit a Merc garage compared with visiting a Skoda garage! Plus, more – and more expensive – things tend to go wrong on a Merc. I should know; we've had one of each for years.

I think you can actually order one now, but you can't get anywhere near the same discount on the new one, hence me getting the outgoing shape.

The premium plus took me over the 30K and I didn't want to go there, but yes you are correct, the discounts at the moment are huge. I had almost 9K off it. That was a major part of my decision.

I have the L&K Superb and my neighbour has a 2015 eclass. Even he admits mine looks better on both exterior and interior. He has a standard SE spec with black leather. Mine has cream leather with black gloss etc.

Now if he had a better spec then you could argue which one is better. I've driven a eclass for 2 months and at first it was ok but then it got more uncomfortable and I just didn't like it.

The Superb with the DCC is good because you can set your individual requirements.

I've been in the executive travel business and that's why I brought the superb. Not matter how good it is, it's still not classed as executive. You can charge a premium for having a merc which will go towards the cost and maintenance of the car.

Beleive it or not but people would rather get picked up in a 5 year Merc than a Skoda. That's a fact

It's not me that needs or wants the badge, it will be my customers. I've had two SII's and I've been delighted with them. My personal opinion is that customers on a long run to an airport will be more comfortable in the Superb than the E Class due to the extra legroom, but I'm going to try and secure a contract with a firm that provides the public with executive transport and sadly (their loss in my opinion) the general public don't see Skoda as an executive brand.

I can understand where you are coming from. Anyone who has a small bit of knowledge about cars know the Skoda would be ideal as a Limo/chauffeur car but others just see a badge & in your line of work it will be mainly the latter. Personally I think the gap between mainstream & executive is getting smaller due to BMW/Merc/Audi's obsession with sticking a car in every segment possible, & the mainstream brands pushing their flagship models more upmarket (Passat/Superb L&K) Filling every niche/Segment devalues the executive brand in my opinion but if it makes them money they'll say it works.

I'll be keeping my SII. It's been a reliable steed over the almost 100K that I have owned it. I've only changed the pads on it once [emoji15].

That's good! It's a terrible company to work for.

After careful consideration I've gone a for new S Class Mercedes.

To be honest it wasn't far off what i was paying for the Superb.

I've gone for a S350 L AMG. Interior space was a must for me and to be honest there's no beating a S Class. The L version also offers recling rear seats which is will be amazing.

Hopefully take delivery in March on 16 plate.

Lovely machine but way out of my price range unfortunately.

Orange wheels offering 10k of the Merc, also 4k off L&K, but does include 2k from dealer for Skoda finance. Nothing off new EClass, which puts it at almost 40k, against 28k for Superb
