Instrument lights on always?

Featured Replies

Has anyone found a way of having the instrument panel lights on during the day time apart from switching the side lights on?

It's probably just me but on a dull day, I find that the grey numbers and markings are quite difficult to see especially as the white indicator needles show up very well.

You aren't the only one, it's a well discussed problem and IMO a bit of a safety issue. I haven't heard of a way of getting it done though [emoji53]

Never found it to be an issue although if you do maybe you could wire it up to an ignition live rather than a light live. Maybe take it to an auto electrician and ask them.

If its a dull day.. I put my headlights on (:

I would even question the sanity of someone who wants dash illumination without exterior lights... How often do you pass a vehicle coming from the opposite direction, in the dark, who has omitted to turn on his/her lights as they "Think"They are on due to illuminated dials? Or they have DRL's switched on, can see the road in front and the dash but have no rear end lights on? These drivers are an accident waiting to happen and most accidents happen as the day turns to night and the light is dwindling...

Keep the interior lighting connected to the light switch car manufacturers... You know its safer and not just a case of styling over safety!

Yep, manufacturers designing the interior dash lights to come on all the time, even during the day is partly why we see so many plonkers driving around in poor visibility with only DRL's on and no rear lights.

Agreed but on my commute to work there are areas where the light level is a little low in the cabin due to trees etc, it doesn't warrant side lights or rear lights but sometimes seeing the dials is not the easiest thing. Perhaps a happy compromise of illuminating the needle and speed indicators on the binnacle only? Listening to the arguments against illumination and the reasoning I have to say I'm now with the majority, off is safer for other road users.

If the car in question has Maxidot. The big MPH readout might be the answer, do we think?

Just an idea (:

It is, but if the solution is easy then where's the fun?

Just switch your lights on, can't see the harm to be honest. :dull:

Theres harm if you dont in dull conditions.

Potential crash, bang, wallop and then you dont have to worry about that again :D

The citigo was always on then at low light or dusk they went off to kind of remind you to turn the lights on
