CarPlay

Is carplay limited like android auto to a specific number of actions?

I was hoping to use it for spotify but it has a limit built in which prevents scrolling through a long list (i.e.albums) and this renders it useless?

I think any limitation is more likely to be App related. I don't use Spotify so can't answer for that particular app.

I can access over 1,800 albums, 33,000 songs in my iCloud Music Library using the Music app.

Scrolling through such a long list would be burdensome, so there's alphabetic scrolling a la iPod.

If I'm driving I don't want to be scrolling through lists so that's where Siri comes into play, with you telling it what you want to listen to.

I haven't tried it but... I wonder if the "hey Siri" iPhone feature works when the phone is plugged in / CarPlay mode.

For anyone not familiar with this feature.. on the iPhone, go: Settings > General > Siri > Allow "Hey Siri"

Solves the need to press any button to activate it..

Note only works when the plugged in / on charge.

I can't get "Hey Siri" to respond when the phone is in the phone box, with or without the cover closed.

On the 6S/6S+ it no longer needs to be powered. A mute point as wireless CarPlay is not supported on the MIB1/MIB2 units (nor any other to date).

I just have my iPhone on shuffle, makes it fun to guess whats coming next - Metallica then Girls Allowed etc

There is a limit imposed by android auto for safety apparently.

I think the app designers are expected to try and work within this.

By the way, the initial flakiness was indeed due to a cable problem. I'm sure that cable was OK before I started abusing it trying to get it into the "phone box"!!

Anyway, phone very happy on top of the lid.

BTW - love the way the car keeps telling me not to forget my phone!

IMO, after using both CarPlay and android auto - both are poor. Android auto is a horrible interface, CarPlay is a lot better but constantly cuts out over the cable and is totally unreliable. I think the built in phone module is a lot better
