Renault Scenic DCI or Citreon Picasso HDI

Featured Replies

Well bought ourselves a 1.8 16v Picasso a few months back for lugging all the baby gear around in and think its a great car but racked up 3k in it in the space of about 2 months which is alot for us  so thinking about flogging the Fabia vRS :( and buying either a Diesel Picasso or the previous shapped Renault Megane Scenic.

Reasons for this, we need a diesel cause of the miles we seem to be racking up and also we need something that is big, comfortable and safe so these two MPV are on my list.

The Picasso we already like but we need a diesel and with our

From the number of (both of) them driving about in the Abingdon area, both seem like decent MPVs - would your dealer (Citroen one I suppose) be interested in doing you a good part-exchange, perhaps you guys can stretch to the 1.6 HDI then? Surprised that the 2.0 has that little power.

As for tuning - if it hasn't got a turbo the amount of extra power will be pretty limited, and probably IMHO not worth doing - unfortunately I don't know any citroen (or Renault) tuners but I'm sure they must exist :)

The other thing - as you're pleased with the Picasso, I'd probably stick with that car choice. You know all your baby-related and other 'stuff' + rest of family fits to your comfort, so why change :)

PS you gonna do the same as 'the other driving instructor' and get a PD100 tuned up ;) ?

The 2.0HDI is a turbo, power is so low because it doesn't have an intercooler and I don't think there is room for one. I seem to remember some people on the Picasso forum fitting tuning boxes which took them up to about 115bhp. TBH 90bhp is fine for what kind of car it is, will sit at 70mph all day, with enough there to get you out of trouble if required. We did the annual trip to Cornwall in ours, one tank of diesel each way (590miles) with some to spare, general day to day got around 41mpg. Try to get Exclusive trim, comes with alloys, climate, cruise, big glass sunroof (never really used but makes interior much lighter) also try to get a colour that comes with the blue upholstery, the beige is minging!

My Dad went from the 2.0 to the 1.6 and loves it, reckons it is more petrol like to drive, I think you could find one for 7K if you look hard enough.

Ah that would explain the drop in power - no intercooler...

WW VRS - I have driven the certain other members car and it rev'd like a petrol and that would before Jabba had another go at upping the power to circa 150bhp + ;)

I'm also thinking that the anti-stall on the PDs would work well with learners :)

My boss has the (bigger) Espace - has had

Zafira seems to be a pretty good one for the MPV side of things, not driven one myself though. Definitely agree with the buy second hand for this type of car, by the sound of it that's what you're after anyway :)

Does the Scenic have an intercooler ?

Zafira drives like a transit van.

The current shape Scenic is very good but your bugdet wouldn't stretch to the 120 bhp version. The 80/86bhp and 100bhp versions use the 1.5 engine which is great but that engine will maybe struggle a little in this car and it's unlikely that it's tunable.

My Bro in law has had a Picasso (90bhp) for 4 years. He does 20k a year and pulls a caravan all over France every year and at weekends. No major problems during that time although the driver's seat can be uncomfortable for long legged driver's. I'm no Puegeot/Citroen fan but this car does well. The trim is a bit flimsy though. Lots of rattles i'm afraid.

I would disagree about the Picasso being uncomfortable for big leggies, comfiest car I've ever had, 11hrs without a twinge, though cruise control helps as you can move yer legs about.

John you can get a 105bhp older shape scenic if you get one late enough and according to the superchips site this can be upp'd by 30bhp not that I would use superchips so I would assume that they do have an intercooler.

Bro in law doesn't have cruise. Says there is like a metal bar in the seat that makes him incomfortable on long journeys. Has had the seat changed twice but no help.
