Car is at the dealers today for checks/warranty on:

• Xenons - poor range
• N/S/R chrome trim corroded
• Parcel shelf slow to retract
• Steering wheel not on straight

Dealer has noted on the job sheet that there is an outstanding campaign for the door seal / trim alignment so presume that will get looked at.

About to clock up 20,000 miles this week and everything is good.

 

Fuel consumption is hovering around 45 MPG (average) but has been as high as 50 MPG, it just depends where I am and where I've been when I fill up!

 

Got fed up of the washer nozzles so did the modification to VW fan spray ones and everything is much better.

 

There are an increasing number of stone chips on the front but that's par for the course.

 

Rattles and vibrations are non-existent, contrary to what other members are suffering. I don't drive round in silence listening for issues though!

 

Tyre wear is good and no visual sign of needing replacements yet, but I do need to measure properly.

 

Columbus sat nav sometimes has a "dickie" when it's cold in a morning and jumps and misses sequences but it's no biggie.

On the way home tonight I will clock up 10,000 miles!

 

Doing some reasonable mileage now each week, at least 600 miles including weekend stuff.

 

Fuel consumption is satisfactory given my heavy right foot and the DSG 'box. YTD it's 43.9 MPG, but the average of last ten is 45.5 MPG.

 

I've had an aftermarket detachable towbar fitted recently for a bike carrier.

 

The car has also had it's first service - oil change and pollen filter only.

 

 

Had no particular issues to mention - car continues to perform as well as expected. I have yet to do the washer nozzle modification but it is on my list to do, just not priority at present.

I'm approximately 1,500 miles into my new S3 and here is a brief summary of my thoughts:

 

 

Likes:

• Space & comfort
• KESSY
• Xenons
• ACC
• DSG box & paddles
• Ride (on par with my S2 despite being on 19s)

 

 

Dislikes:

• Xenons (spread sometimes isn't wide enough or long enough for my liking)
• ACC (takes some getting used to)
• Seats (base isn't long enough as per S2)

 

 

 

Not really tracking MPG but MFD is saying around 40-45 MPG.

Seats bases don't extend, but do seem very comfy from the time I've sat in it.

I wanted to order in Corrida Red but my wife and daughters 'persuaded' me that I should go for the Moon White, apparently I'm too old for red!

 

I knew I should have stuck to my guns!

48 hours from now I'm hoping to have that same warm fuzzy feeling of having picked up a new car in the shape of my 190 DSG L&K Combi (or do we say Estate?). 50 years old and feeling like a kid on Christmas Eve!

Always liked the look of them when they came out on the S2, and they do suit the car especially in 19".

 

 

I've been out in it, very smooth, very comfortable. Road noise is no different to the S2 with 17s, in fact IMO it's quieter in the S3.

 

ACC is spookily good - have it set to "Medium" distance which I think is a bit big, but it slowed to a stop, albeit agressively, from 50mph. OH couldn't believe it, then again nor could I !

The weathers been rubbish since I got it at the beginning of last month so I don't think I've seen it in sunshine yet.

 

My last three cars have all been silver so I did want a change, although I'm loving the Coops red estate !

That does sit rather well. It's amazing what a colour and wheel choice can do to a car. There is a white estate around my way as a taxi and I think it's the S model and it looks really bland to be honest. The wheels are lost on it.

Ah, but there's white and white! Usually white emphasises body creases (which are quite prominent on the S3)
