Hi

Can anyone help me out here

I have just put the roomster in part ex for a 2014 tdi spaceback, it's the elegance model with sat nav, and what I won't to know is can I stream music for me phone to this unit

I have had a look about but I can't find the answer

Thanks

Steve

You should have the Amundsen Nav unit fitted I guess, if so it will have connection over Bluetooth to you phone.

I have the same unit in my Toledo, it connects the  phone via USB, BT for music and BT for call s of course. There should also be an SD card slot, which I prefer to load all my tunes onto and play from there.

I'm the same, use an SD card.  There is also the option to BT phone tunes or use the MDI cable (never got MDI to work)

I'm not sure if you can control the BT tunes from the steering wheel or if it just sends whatever is on the phone out to the speakers?

@Chrisgreen on here probably knows more about the tech side of this.

Hello - I'm here!

Ok, on a 2014 Rapid with Factory nav it will be the Amundsen RNS315. Assuming you also have Bluetooth fitted?

If so, the answer is yes - Bluetooth audio streaming works very well if you have the Amundsen/Bluetooth combination, with full on-screen track and album information, as well as play/pause/ff/rw control from the head unit and steering wheel controls (if fitted).

In addition, there is the SD card slot, which you can load with music (MP3, WMA) 32GB SDHC class 10 (FAT32 format) is the biggest that definitely works. Over and above that is a case of try it and see. Don't create too many folder layers, the Amundsen tends to have a strop if you go more than a couple of folder levels down.

Also, you may have the MDI port - a USB port and 3.5mm combo directly underneath the heater/AC controls. This is a deeply temperamental interface when used with an iPhone, and just generally hit-and-miss with Android. You will need a special cable in both instances - a normal Lightning or Dock connector cable won't work. Search the forum for our thread from late 2014/early 2015 where we discussed cables that work.

Hi

Thanks guys, I pick the car up on Saturday, so I will have a play and see how I get on

If you do indeed have an Amundsen & Bluetooth, you'll be in good shape and will never need to touch the MDI port (if present). Just invest in a good phone charger to plug into the 12v socket by the handbrake. I recommend the AmazonBasics Lightning or microUSB car charger leads from Amazon. Cheap but very well made (and recommended as Bluetooth streaming does put a dent in battery power).

Hi gang

Well I got the car this am and I'm well happy

Now I my samsung galaxy s5 to pair with the car and my phone works great, but I just can't get the music to play, what am I doing wrong?

Thanks

Once paired press MEDIA button on Amundsen - should have choices of source in that page SD MDI BT etc.  Check phones BT volume is up as well.

Hi

Thanks for the info, I did try the media and it say Bluetooth on the screen but all I get is the sound out of the phone

Do you think it may be the music player on the phone?

Steve

Is it paired?  When you go to phone on the Maxidot one of the symbols on that page indicates the media connection.

No the music streaming is a separate pairing. Just because it has paired on the hands free profile does not mean the media streaming profile has paid as well. As others have said, on Maxidot go into phone, Bluetooth, Media player and select active device to see if your phone is paired for media streaming.

Ah ok

Right I will try this tomorrow

How do I pair the phone for streaming?, the book that came with car is not that good

Option to pair for media streaming is in the media player section of Maxidot

Hi

Thanks guys I will try and sort it out today, I will let you know how I get on

Well I got it to work, but I don't have a clue how I made it work

I was messing about with it this am for about a hour with no joy, then I went to use the car and it was working just fine

Let's just hope it's all ok now.

Thank God you were doing the relatively easy BT connection - and not fighting the MDI for weeks or months :)

I think the crappy interfaces on the pre MY16 cars are probably going to encourage new buyers to pay the extra money for SmartLink.

Hi all

Back to square one, it won't play music today, but the phone works fine.

In which case it might be phone-related rather than on the car side. Suggest trying a different make/model of phone to see if it behaves with the on-board Bluetooth system.

Tried mine today.

Got in car with previoiusly-paired phone with BT mode on.

It linked to Amundsen+

Pressed media button.

Bottom right on screen was BT option.

Pressed that and Amundsen+ found the media player on the Samsung Fame and started playing the most recently used playlist.

The Audio screen on maxidot showed the track info.

The Phone screen on maxidot showed icons for Signal, Battery, Bluetooth, and Media (a little iPod icon)

Yep - that's spot on, all displays present and correct.

I have the opposite issue... every time i get in the car my android phone loads the music player on the phone without me doing anything!!

To be honest, im more than happy using a 32gb SD card and 8GB USB drive.
