Ok here goes my sister bought a 1.2 tsi from a škoda dealer. And after 7 months it's due a MOT. It failed on corroded from pads and disk binding back wheel and a oil leak. Prior to buying the car a full inspection and service was done. So cut to the chase it's highly unlikely that the brakes have corroded in seven months I told the service manager so we came to an agreement that she would pay 50% towards the bill that's fine. But then she gets a call and has been told that the oil separator is leaking and it will cost over £350. Now would it be ok to drive it for a while until she can afford to have it repaired. it only has a very tiny leak.

It might be safe for her dropping just some oil, if it does, not safe for other road users, cyclists, motor cyclists etc.

 

Is this the first MOT @ 3 Years.

Maybe get pics up of the discs. 

 

So was it a Skoda Approved used car with a Warranty to cover the Oil Separator?

Is this a Skoda Dealership doing the MOT and then telling her the Fails / Faults and repair costs?

Re Skoda Approved Used Cars,

they should have 'Safety Checks' before sale, that does not guarantee a Service is done unless due, 

and even then a 'Service' might not get done.

So is there record of a Service before she collected the car, a Health Check list showing 'Corroded / Scored Discs 

or the likes?

There is a service record but no mention of the disks or pads

Sorry yes the dealer is doing the MOT and repairs and as the warranty I'm not sure what that covers

And it's the second MOT

So if a Skoda Approved used car with a 12 month Warranty the Dealership needs to see about the Warranty Claim on leaking oil.

 

& maybe the Sales Executive and Workshop Manager need to have a look with the Dealer Principal and discuss how bad the Discs are now to fail the MOT, and how bad they have got after the 7 months have passed.

 

Did any of the services have the rear Drums off, and how good was the Pre Sale Safety Checks.

 

Sounds like the MOT Tester has done the right thing, while landing a Skoda Dealership right in it.

Arnold Clark failed my nieces car on the 2nd MOT after she had bought it from them, Exhaust hanging off, Jubilee Clip used to hold it on etc.

The thing was, they filmed them selves failing it at the 1st MOT, and doing a Warranty Repair.

and this year the Tester Failing it was the Technician that bodged it the first year.

Just read the warranty and there is no mention of a oil leak not being being covered in the exclusion bracket

No reason for it to be excluded, it is a mechanical failure.

So the Master Tech needs to get on with diagnosing, doing a report and get on with claiming on the Warranty on your sisters behalf.

Or she can talk that over at the Service Desk or whoever quoted the repair cost.

 

The Discs and Pads & rear brakes are a concern if the Examiner Failed the car, 

and it is not just a Pre MOT Check, and the Dealership Upselling.

 

Pics should be taken, and the Dealership can say if they are just Wear & Tear and 5 year old Discs / Pads needing replaced.

How many miles has the car done?

50k. And sod speaking to the dealer I've told her to ring SUK. They have technically sold her a dangerous car. And the dealer hasn't got the best reputation.

A Skoda Official Dealership sold her a 4 year old car, not Skoda UK,  but Skoda UK put their name to Approved Used Cars'.

 

Not so sure on unsafe, unless it was unsafe when 'checked' 7 months ago.

It has been getting used, and stopping and going it seems. Until in for the MOT.

Unless she has complained about the brakes and oil leak.

 

Skoda UK seem to think Dealerships without the best reputation is OK as long as they have the right type of Showroom 

to meet the Skoda UK Standard of Showroom, stuff the Customer Service.

Can you name the Dealership.?

Someone at the Dealership might read it, or the New Skoda UK Brand Directors Team at Milton Keynes and your sisters 

car might be repaired by tomorrow, Free Gratis.

You never know, they ignore Briskoda, but funnily know what is being said in posts.....

that is one that others looking at buying an Approved Used Skoda cars might reconsider as where to go.

 

Please keep us updated on what Skoda UK or the Dealership say about how much the repairs will cost her to get the car through the MOT.

Thats where my cars from. New in 2013. Had a few run ins with them with warranty work.

Bloody useless.

I avoid them like the plague now. I go to Chesterfield if warranty work is needed, and use a Skoda independant specialist in Leek for anything else.

I had an issue buying an AUC from a Skoda dealership that hadn't been maintained to the correct requirements. It had missed a brake fluid and spark plug change. The garage was not inclined to do anything about it until I involved SUK. They were very good in helping and despite much back and forth with the dealership; I got them changed as per the service requirements. 

 

I did ask if they'd warrant the engine if something went wrong and SUK refused to honour the warranty on it due to a missed service item. They declined to and that's when they agreed to pay to have them done!

Update. SUK said its not under warranty so ring the dealer and see if you can agree on a lower price. She rang and told them she has been on to SUK. So they offer to do the job for a £100 which is very good price considering they want £350 + vat. So all in all a £700 job is now. £300 pound job for all the brakes disks and the oil separator.

And I had a issue with them a while back over the timing chain which I got for £85. After they quoted me £700 ish can't remember but after ringing SUK that's the price I got it down to. I'm sure I made a post about it. Anyway thanks for the advice goneoffskiroottoot

Not good enough. Why is the engine issue not covered by warranty. New discs and pads and rear drums sorted out good value. Oil leak. Do not pay anything until in writing from the Warranty Provider why you should and not them.

And that's to fit it and labour £350

Flipping mystery what Skoda Uk try to say Extended Warranties cover. Mechanical and electrical as long as it's not part of a Skoda.
