Who's went for an uprated Fabia VRS clutch?

Featured Replies

My clutch slips :( and I fancy upgrading it to something that can handle the remap a bit better.

I've heard about the various options - Sachs, Kevlar, organic....etc...

Who's had what done, would you recommend it, had it completely stopped the slipping, and what about the rattling in idle problems and agressive clutch issues I've heard about?

Anyone fancy doing a review, or recommend somewhere who can do it and a rough price?

Cheers

Well, here's my small review. I can't recommend JBS' kevlar clutch enough for simple OEM feel, and yet has the strength to never ever slip. :)

There's no rattle at all, as its still the dual mass flywheel, just machined down to work the new clutch. This has in no way affected the stable tickover revs like I wondered. Neither has it changed the feel of gearchanges or the action of the clutch. It still feels oem to depress.

I guess what has changed is the car leaps forward a bit if you accidentally find 4th instead of 2nd for a junction. Only done it once.... :D

So, OEM feeling clutch with the power to laugh in the face of 360 lb/ft.... no contest for me.

Just out of curiosity, what Re-Map have you got and what BHP/Torque figure is your car producing?

John.

Be carefull re the Sachs one, I know of someone running around 320ft/lb and it's slipping, trying to get refund at the moment. Ross PM me if you want more info. Don't know if it's anything to do with the LSD he's also running.

Thanks Devonutopia for the mini-review - all sounds good. Any rough indication of cost? I would need my dual mass flywheel sorted out as well, assuming its going to be in bad shape at the moment.

I've got a Star Performance remap with a few other bits n pieces - Milltek exchaust with sports cat, green filter and PD160 inlet.

The figures from the dyno run were 170bhp and 300lb/ft .

The problem was the rolling road couldnt produce an accurate figure for bhp and torque because of the slipping clutch. You can see the output of the dyno run HERE.

I've no definate plans but also fancy other upgrades in the future - wouldnt rule out FMIC and hybrid turbo so would definately want a clutch thats going to last.

Cheers

Im off for the Helix paddle clutch and flywheel from star in January, just the kind of expense I need after xmas :(

JBS need the clutch & flywheel for at least 1 week, so either leave the car with them and run around in a spare for a while, or get someone to remove your clutch and send it off to them - It will obviously be off the road for the duration.

It was £600 for me with Briskoda discount. ;) - £500 for clutch and £100 machining of flywheel (roughly) This was supplied to me and didn't include any JBS physical labour on my car. ;)

Hmm a week - that would be a show-stopper for me :(

Is there anything that could be fitted within a single working day?

The SACHs kit Xav fitted was done in a day. Thats the "trouble" with the JBS clutch was the time delay - It was fine for me as I was mid-conversion anyway. :) It is essential the flywheel is machined though - I think Sarah will be along shortly to say why. The actual kit is easy enough.

Perhaps IF, JBS were to get a couple of new DM flywheels machined and in stock, the could do the clutch swap in one day? Sounds like a plan to me. What's my cut, Sarah? ;)

Hey Jason you are working well.

Yes we can offer the Kevlar one but the Sachs one is what we do too.

We have sold quite a few of both of these clutches.

But because of the waiting period on the clutch and longer bedding in time we have sold more of the Sachs ones.

We have had the Sachs one fitted to a Mk4 with nitrous going up and down the strip so these are good too.

Kevlar one as tested by out own Jason.

If I can help please feel free to give me a call on 01246 455005

Thank you

Sarah

Hey Jason that is a very big IF

The flywheels are like rocking horse stuff.

We have been calling people in regards these and cannot get hold of them.

We did manage the 5 speed flywheel but not the 6 or the PD ones.

But you are doing well. ;)

Sarah

A sachs one only a few months old is beginning to slip on a seat leon just now and thats 'only' pushing 310 lb/ft, so im a bit weary of that option

Well is this the uprated one.

I do know that they do require bedding in.

I do all but nag about this as it is critical to the life of the clutch.

Like I said we have fitted one to a mk4 Golf 150PD with Nitrous that has been up and down the drag strips and has had no problem at all

So I could not say.

But could be worth him checking in to this.

Yes definatly the uprated one, Im not sure about his bedding in procedure, but knowing the person and knowing his car then i would say it was done by the book.

Im not saying the clutch is sh!te, every manufacturer has the occasional slip up and this may well just be one of them.

Just the occasional bit of bad press makes you think twice before buying.

Do you do the Helix organic paddle with SMF sarah?

Thought about trying to get them out of PD130 salvage cars? Might be a bit of effort but perhaps a good value way of getting hold of DM flywheels? What about bulk orders from the EU? :D

i am currently on the look out for an uprated performance clutch, as mine is slipping like a B****rd, im running around the 180bhp/310+lb/ft torque and its not looking good. anyone any ideas of a good one? cheers

My clutch is ok at mo but DMF is fooked lol...

i give jason less than 10k miles before the flywheel explodes

We can get nice uprated clutches.

Check out the post further up.

We have had no problems with these clutches.

Sarah

What sort of prices are the uprated clutches fitted? can these be fitted "while u wait"?

Hi

The price for a Sachs uprated PD clutch is:

£637.20 plus VAT (fitted) from JBS.

This includes a new clutch release bearing.

Bargain!

Sarah can you find out what the Sachs one is rated for, all I can see on the website is 320ft/lbs, which is close to generic remap figures.

318 lb/ft mate :)

Thanks:finger: I sit corrected, tell me why your vacant

After my little accident i am hoping to but my Ibiza back for parts.I had a full Helix race clutch with single mass flywheel which the SMF causes the input shalf to rattle when in neutral but it will stick anything you will throw at it.I might keep it or i am thinking about a Spec 3+ clutch for my new Golf GT TDI 4motion.

Sarah i just so happen to have my factory clutch set up with DMF lying around in my garage if your interested.
