105 tdi pd Whats the best style of driving

Featured Replies

Hi all most of my driving is on the A1 sitting in a straight line I clock up 100 miles a day commuting but can anyone tell me the optimum speed for engine longevity also I have 16" alloys and 45 profile tyres and can find the ride a little harsh is this normal I've never had low profile tyres before

Whatever speed you like. You probably get better fuel economy at lower revs with a PD. They've got plenty of low down torque, don't need to be revved so much.

You could change your wheels and tyres to a size with higher sidewalls. 195 55 r15 maybe :)

When I had my Fabia 3 with the 105PS PD engine, I got around 53mpg on mixed driving.  Rarely went above 60mph on the motorway though despite the car being capable of much more.  Looking back, the engine is probably the best I have had in any car.  Strong as an ox, never needed attention beyond regular servicing and quite capable of super acceleration if needed.  Loved it.  I had the same tyre size as yours and found the ride decent although low profile tyres do tend to ride harsher than standard ones.

Would I be able to get my money back if I sold my 16" and bough some 15" wheels I usually do about 60 I know it could probably happily sit at 80 but I like seeing the trip counter mpg creep up lol

check out Ebay. You should find the 16's sell for more than 15's. i think the Atares 15's are only about £100 a corner even from a dealer.

on another note.. i dont know how you can possibly drive at 60 and not get absolutely bored ****less haha.

My theory is, with regard to engine wear, that it will expire after the same quantity has been consumed with driving style determining it's lifespan in years.

It's a theory.....

dno about that. It can be pot luck as much as anything.

Just warm it up properly and dont spend too much tome at the redline and itll be fine.

Driving too gently will clogg engines up. They like a blast out now and again.

Keeping ontop of the servicing is also a high priority.

I drive mine on a range of roads, at various speeds (within legal limits might I add) and revs. As fabiamk2SE says, every engine will like a bit of revs once every so often, rather than say sitting at 40mph every day for 20 miles. Use the turbo range, take it up to 4K once every so often to blow the muck out. I don't take mine about 4K to the red line as it is not worth it.

I get about 50mpg out of mine on a range of roads, mostly rural.

Just make sure to give it the beans once a week (when up to temperature) to clear out the EGR valve and exercise the turbo. This will lead to a happy engine

On a normal drive just using light pressure on the throttle. Changing at no more than about 3000rpm (as the torques tails off quickly after then).

If you're accelerating up to speed for a motorway etc and it can be more economical to apply a bit more throttle and get up to speed quickly rather than taking ages on a light throttle.

One a run I can get between 55 and 60mpg out of this engine and that's in a heavy Octavia (over 1500kg) and a DSG gearbox. So I imagine the Fabia with a manual box will see more than this!
