hard and imprecise gearing

Featured Replies

Hi! Ladies and gentlemen!

Do any have some good ideas to get more precise gearing? It is difficult to find 3. gear. I have to be very precise  with my hand, else I meet  the 1. go 5.

I have oiled on the mechanical parts on the top of the gearbox, it helps a bit, but I am wondering if I have to open under the gear shifter inside?

Is it easy to take things apart?

Some tips here?

Something wrong with the feather B? I will look at this to day.. may be it is broken? May be oiling inside here?

Thanks! Wery interesting... It looks a little complicated?

It's very easy. I can do it in about 5 minutes or less.

Yes it's worth checking that nothing is worn or broken on your selector.

Getting at the gear shifter in the cabin is really easy - just pull up the gaitor by hand and it unclips. Once you're in there and you've checked nothing is broken or wobbly, you might as well reset the linkages as you've already done 40% of the job!

If the ball seems to flop around in the socket, you may need a rebuild kit for the ball joint, but I've not heard of a Fabia having this problem - Vauxhalls suffer with this badly because the plastic's too soft. You've said you've got the 1.2, there's loads of room under the bonnet on them so the job will be easier too.

Thanks! I open the  gear shifter inside Yesterday. Everything looks fine. I oiled the mechanic things inside, and i works better, but the movement sideways is still slow or difficult. I can get use to it, but this is not good enough for me or next owner i think.

The feather was fine:

The movement of the shifter seems to be ok, since the mechanic movements  is function ok, and all the gear go in and stays there when I drive the car.

The moment for 2. an 4. is a little better than 1. 3. an 5. gear, so I think I haws to a dust a little as you says. Is that easy also?

I also check the movement arm as go down in the gearbox, and it mowes light. Som my conclusion is that the wire goes slow inside the wire guide. I oiled it Yesterday, under the rubber on then end and I will check it if it is better to day.

If not I will take the rubber off an use thin oil inside the wire ant´d a hairdryer to worm it. Like I use on old sewing machines that I also work with as hobby....

About adjusting of the wire length? May be you a.k.a. Peter or someone else can tell me how to do?

I think the wire should be shorter, since I have better moment to 2. and 4. gear?

I hope you understand my old school english?

And again thanks for good advice!

Worth oiling everything up as you said, as that should make it move more smoothly. I would still adjust the linkages as posted above, as that may well fix the travel into 2/4 to match 1/3/5. This is essentially how you adjust the cables as you put it.

Thanks again! I'm not sure how the wires are connected? How to loose and how to fit?

I think i must adjust the center wire, who lift the switcher pop and down in the gearbox?

I was looking at the video again, and it seems to be easy to fix nearly to easy? I this plastic things really strong?

hm.... just wondering....

I also hope the oil will fix the wire movement?

Yes, it's very easy. The plastic clamps hold the cables in the perfect place, so they are the only way that you need to adjust them.
