A few questions for a new owner please

Featured Replies

Picked up my 07 Octavia VRS estate 11 days ago then spent the next week on holiday driving around Scotland in it, goes without saying that I love it!

Anyway, to the point of this post, a few questions that I can't find the exact answer to on here, so if you don't mind helping me out?

How do you remove the rear washer nozzle for cleaning? (Can only find advice for the saloon version)

Is it possible to replace the silver VRS inlay/badge on the steering wheel (can only find people asking about the main Skoda logo and obvious warnings about doing it!)

My cargo/boot cover does not stay locked in place, either as soon as shut the boot or driving along (scared me to death first time it happened!) it shoots back. Any tips?

I think that's it for now, thanks

For the rear washer nozel you need to remove the high level brake light. Remove the centre section of trim at the top of the boot opening and you will find two nuts which release the light, the washer nozel is built into this.

You should not try to replace the steering wheel badge yourself, the only safe way is to replace the whole cover as the badge has to be fixed correctly to stop it becoming a very fast moving projectile if the airbag ever goes off.

Cargo/boot cover im not sure about as mine still works perfectly, although i only ever close it when i have stuff in the boot other than the dog cage.

Cheers. Pretty much what I thought re the silver inlay, though part of me hoped that as it's not on the air bag part itself that it may have been possible.

I believe its not even recommended to put a sticker on due to the forces involved in airbag release. Mike Holroyd will explain more if he's around as he used to work with airbags.

Oh I completely understand that, pretty much common sense. Of course I have no idea how the airbag opens, though thought as this part is off the airbag/centre of wheel then may have been ok. I think I'll cope without replacing it :0)

My boot cover opens when I press it down at the edge so I would think there is a spring (or similar) in the side holders. I assume they all work the same.

Have a look at these side holders / clips.................Never had a problem with mine though.

Use a small pin to clear the washer jet (a poppy badge is ideal), the aim is adjustable by inserting pin and swivelling the jet ball in the desired direction.

I think the OP is asking about the vRS badge on the steering wheel rather than the main Skoda roundel, i.e. this one...

Although that is the facelift (FL) steering wheel, on an 07 the vRS steering wheel will look more like this...

A lot nicer shape, the newer F/L one, imo.

Thanks Silver, yes it's the silver vRS badge I was referring to. As I mentioned above messing with the main Skoda badge is a pretty stupid idea.

The new F/L does look a lot nicer. I've had a quick look for a replacement badge but found nothing

Oh and an update re the rear cargo cover; the original metal & plastic baton that was meant to lock in place once fully opened seemed too short and the edges were worn at a 45* angle, so it had no way of staying locked behind the spring loaded clips in the runner. It looks like there should've been something that fitted on either end and was missing.

Anyway I searched through my old mans spare bits of wood and metal, I was after some wooden beading but he had nothing that suited, we did however find an old net curtain rail with rubber tips on each end. We measured up, cut, reapplied the rubber tips, took out the old baton and slid this one in. Now I have a functioning cargo cover that stays open and locked in place.

Yes it's a bodge, the rail needs to be twice as wide to fill the gap in the materiel of the cargo cover, it's white (so covered in black electrical tape!) but it'll do for now until I can find something better
