Help! Stereo locked me out and I dont have the code.

Featured Replies

Having disconnected the battery yesterday, while fitting the CAI, the head unit is now aking me for the security code.

Trouble is I dont seem to have it :(

I'm away for a long weekend at the moment and its more than a little annoying, I may find a local dealer but will they be willing to help?

I assume if they cant/wont help me there is no way to unlock it with VAG-COM ?

A dealer should be able to look it up for you in jig time.

I think you should be able to use an online decoder Phil.

Grundig IIRC - Just uses the serial number.

Get googling!!

I'll try - but I'm on dial-up here :( Dont I need to remove the head unit to find the serial number?

Feel free to google for me though ;)

Sometimes I'm just too kind.

Can't a free one yet but here is one

Yes the radio will need to be pulled out.

This is what you need -

Cancel that above - you'd need to read the eeprom for that one.

next question - how to remove the stereo with all my tools at home in the garage ?

damn - as you say that program doesnt work from the head unit serial number. Could still be useful though.

If you have an old credit card then its a doddle.

Cut 2 thin strips about 1cm wide and insert them into the thin slots in the front of the HU and pull forward.

I am surprised about the code though. When I disconnected my octy battery the radio prompted for CODE, but then the code was sent via the canbus K wire and the radio enabled itself.

AHhh....... I only turned it on for a few seconds - perhaps it will code itself if I leave it on for a bit longer?

If you can get me the serial Phil we might be in.

Thinking about it Manny is right - it's coded via the ECU.

OK, I'll try turning it on and leaving it on for a while. Otherwise I'll PM you the serial..........

To be continued.

Doesn't take long Phil - I remember it happening to mine.

Ahhhh...... the secret it to turn the ignition on (so it would appear)

Problem solved - thanks for the help, guys.

Good news mate.

Hi, I have the same problem with my 03 Superb symphony radio, having read this thread I take it that if I leave the radio on in SAFE mode with ign. key turned to position 1 that it should come back on itself, I have now done this for 2 hours and still showing SAFE,

Anyone any idea how long it should take,I am on my 4th attempt.

everytime you enter a wrong code the waiting time doubles iirc. basically when its ready it will say learn and come back on. thats wat happened with mine anyway.

After more burning of some grey matter I decided to try again, I pulled fuse no.37 (radio) and then reconnected it , turned on ignition waited a matter of seconds and eureka it worked.:)

I must add also (confession) the reason it went into safe mode was that while strolling through the set up I inadvertently hit a button that I should not have touched, Yes that code button! Curiosity killed the cat,

Thanks to all on this forum.
