Pre Reg Fabia 1.0 SE - Why not?

Featured Replies

Hi all.  I'm currently in the market for a Fabia and have seen a few pre-registered 1.0 SE's with delivery mileage for £9k

I'm struggling to find any reason NOT to go ahead and purchase, can anyone play devils advocate and advise any reasons why I shouldn't buy, or indeed things to consider?

The car is for my wife who will probably do about 5k miles/year (if that).  We'll be paying cash & keeping hold of it for many a year.  I'm likely to shake on the deal should the dealership be happy to chuck in a couple of free services.

Why not just wait until after March the 1st and pay even less for cars that the Dealers are even more desperate to sell than they are now.

Or haggle a bit for more off than they are advertising right now.

After saying that, the price does look good for it being a SE if the 1.0 does the job and feels OK for your needs.

It does need to be a keeper, but the simple engine might turn out to be a gem,

some of the others might be a liability in the future.

Have fun looking and trying.

One thing to watch is how old the car actually is, many pre-reg are potentially early 2015 models that lack some features that the 2016 ones have e.g. full Mirrorlink compatibility etc. Of course that might not bother you.

Also if they have stood around for a long time the odd person has had issues with the discs etc. Best to quiz the Dealer and see what he says and don't take his word for it get it in writing.

Good luck with the free services he'll probably be looking to sell you the fixed price service package ;-)

£12800 list price, the best I can find online is £10800, so £9k is a good deal.

Might be worth waiting until after March 1st as said, should be even more keen to sell them then, as they are older plate.

It's registered June 2015 but has less than 50 miles on the clock.....good point regarding the spec (and potential changes that might have occurred since).

All my wife wants is parking sensors!

I thought you were talking about a choice of cars and not one particular car.

So this is a Showroom or Stock car with 9 months warranty gone already.

Even though just delivery mileage.

The Dealer can maybe do better than the £9,000 then.

There are 2 or 3 making their way to my local dealer, and others heading to some of the other dealers under the franchise.  So there is a choice of sorts, but all are the same spec/age/mileage etc.

The cars are registered to Skoda UK and have, I assume, been sitting in some compound somewhere until now!

An offer of £8500 cash is a good place to start the process off. Good luck with the purchase.

Not scarce car then,

just more that Skoda UK registered to make the 2015 and 2016 What Car Car of the Year & Small Car off the Year look like a success

while they were selling very few.

So after March and the 16 Plates are being Registered you should be able to get a real bargain.

VORSPRUNG DURCH TECHNIK,

(VW Teaching Skoda how to spin Car Sales and Figures.)  Register them and shift them as Used Cars, low Mileage.

Excellent advice, thanks....it'll be beyond the end of Feb before she makes a decision anyway ;)

Only thing to watch if its been sitting, is rusty front discs and battery charge problems I guess.

As is the case with about every VWG Vehicle from stock over the past several years.

Ex Demos / Management Cars and just stuff sitting never sold like plenty of the Middle to larger diesel cars since late last year.

I see the 1.0 SEs are 75ps - why not at that price!

If it was registered June 2015 it's likely to be quite an early model. Mine was registered in July 2015 and was manufactured around March when I checked the VIN no.

Certainly worth checking the spec. a lot of Dealers just seem to have a standard web template when it comes to listing new or pre-reg. cars; doesn't always reflect the actual equipment level.

Damn it looks like the cars I've seen, whilst in SE spec, don't have parking sensors :(

The search goes on....

According to March 2015 brochure, rear parking sensors were standard equipment on SE spec and above.

If it doesn't have them, then it might from a different market such as Ireland or Malta?

Personally, I would see if you can find a 1.2 90hp as the extra 15hp makes for swifter progress and the same or slightly better fuel economy.

Interesting...I guess it could be more to do with the fact that the car isn't at the dealership yet, and as such they've just applied a generic spec list to the advert.

I see what your saying regards the bhp, but for my wife's needs the 75bhp will be sufficient :sun:

My SE was built in April 2015 and has standard rear parking sensors.

I agree with the above about the 90bhp TSI but if it's just for running about I guess the 1.0l will OK.

It definitely will not have smartlink also (ability to mirror Apple/Android phones to the radio). But if that doesn't bother you, as normal bluetooth features will work, then it's a great buy!

Good point....I thought SmartLink only worked with Android, which is why I wasn't bothered about it, but you say it works with Apple too?  It's not a dealbreaker but would definitely be a nice to have.

Any idea when it became standard?

From build week 22 in 2015, I think it was towards the end of May. Any cars built from this week on had the Smartlink incuding Android and Apple compatibility.

Looks like the pre-reg's are missing SmartLink & steering wheel mounted controls (though it does still have Bluetooth).

I still think a deal is worth doing at £8500 :D

If its just doing 5k a year and nipping about town, the 1.0 should suit your needs just fine.

It does lack torque for a car that size when its fully loaded, but for what you're after it sounds perfect.

Not forgetting the 1.0 is a nice simple NA engine. Perfect for a keeper. No added complications of turbos and the rest of it. Less to go wrong so to speak.

Id say go for it (:
