Burnt out rotor arm.

Featured Replies

Hi guys picking your brains here, Felicia with an AFH bolted in, I've had the rotor arm burn out, like mega fooked and the cap is burnt out as well not as bad a the arm but still burnt out. It was running still but massive misfires! Any idea why? Intermotor parts used.

This is the rotor arm out of it.

wow, did the engine overheat or what ?

Given all ignition parts are the correct ones for AFH, I think there was a short from faulty distributor / cap / rotor / leads. Other than melted rotor & cap, any other residues inside distributor? Are you using the car for rallys?

One other thing. The lubrication of the distributor might be another issue. The lack of it.

It looks like possibly the wrong arm or cap so the spark was having to jump a long way or the cap is "timed" wrong so the rotor wasn't pointing at the electrodes when it was sparking.

Have you got the spring loaded carbon brush in the distributor cap, last year my 1360 Mk 1 Escort started running like a camel during some, spirited, usage. Examination found a fubarred rotor arm (no where near as bad as yours) and the caps centre brush missing, so it was using the spring instead, which had sprung about as a spring does whilst trying to make contact, and it was a bit of a molten. It was a new cap, but faulty, fortunately I had a spares in the boot.
