Mazda v Honda alternative AWD systems

Very interesting, like the idea of elctro magnets rather than friction clutches.

Mazda (in particular) and Honda are very big out here and represent massive pricing pressure on VAG's product range but have cast iron reputation for reliability.

I still think the Mazda has a clutch connecting the axles. Its just operated electromechanicaly and is always sending someone power to the rear wheels. I'm not sure if it can send all power to the rear like the haldex can

Seeing the engine is over the front wheels I'm not sure what circumstance would dictate rear-only drive with no ability to (drag induced) change direction assuming zero thrust.

All vehicles have steering angle sensors via their mandatory 'stability' systems, so I'd expect it wouldn't be much more than a programming issue for Honda to include the Mazda method.

Or

Is 'yaw' a motion sense and not related to steering angle?.
