Creaking noise when turning wheel

Featured Replies

I have a skoda fabia 1.4 mpi x reg. When I turn the wheel while stationary and low speed there is a creaking noise. The noise sounds loudest in the wheel arch area. Can't work out the exact location of the noise. When driving at normal speed I can't hear anything. Anybody got any ideas. Don't want to change parts unnecessarily. Thanks for any info.

Possible strut top mount bearings. Have also come across similar creaking due to dried-out drop link ball joints on other cars.

When you say drop link ball joint do you mean anti roll bar drop link?

Thanks for the info. Think I'll spray some wd40 on them and see if the noise goes away. If it does I'll get them changed.

You would need to get the WD40 inside the rubber covers though. Just spraying it over the rubbers won't do anything.

Cheers for the info.

while parked up bounce one side of the car - make sure you get a good hard bounce on it. If you hear the noise then chances are it's the drop links. fairly easy to replace and cheap enough too.

I injected brake fluid into Mk2 cortina ball joints back in the early '70s for the same purpose....

I like it

May be you should check the ball bearing on the top of the font damper? Over the spring?
