Skoda Felicia pick-up engine+gerabox swap

Featured Replies

Hi

Corenctly I have an stock 1,9d pick-up.

Slowly i have started to collect parts needed to convert this engine to TD. And I realized that gears are waaay to short. 5th gear, 110-130km/h 12liter per 100km... Started to think how to extend transmision, becouse making more power on the engine doesn't make any sense with standard transmission ,( I know that standard cluth will not last for long ).

I started  to wonder : buy an rusty golfer III 1,9tdi with healthy insides .

Question is : did anyone here who has make  engine 1,9TDI swap ,changed gearbox as well ?

I know that engine mounts will fit from Golf III ,but how about gearbox  and shafts ?

Sorry for my english ,me no speak americano .

Nothing wrong with your English - it's far better than my Polish!

The 1.9d has the tallest gearbox that came on these, as far as I know, the different gearboxes use the same gears with a different final drive ratio, so there's no obvious way to make a taller one. You've pretty much got to use the Felicia box or you won't be able to get any driveshafts (the transmission is all old Skoda, designed before VAG took over).

So long as you go for the "old" TDI engine, not the PD, wiring should be easy - the catch is the lack of space. Me and my brother got as far as offering one up to the engine bay, it was tight, really tight, worse than the 1.9D is and it's bad. We hadn't got a clue where the boost piping would go. The only reasonable idea was putting the intercooler over the gearbox like on a mark II Golf GTD, but then all the piping would be the wrong way round.

By rights, it should be possible, but it would be a real pain in the arse. The trucks don't weigh much, so I thought the more sensible way of doing it would be the 3 cylinder 1.4TDI from a 6n2> Polo, but that's a PD, so the wiring would be another story.

On the plus side - shouldn't be hard to find a rusty mark III Golf ;)

My advice is to forget about Diesel / TurboDiesel engines on Felicia. Go for a petrol engine swap.

1,6 pertol engine has the tallest gearbox, but not a big differance in ratio

Some one please correct me ,but as 1,6 mpi gearbox has wider ratio ,will it make a noticible differance ?

Here you have everything about gear ratios for Felicia.

As for the engine swap, no, I didn't think of 1.6 engine (AEE). There are better alternatives. I am sure you will get proper guidance from those that fitted more powerful engines (Fabia, Polo, Audi, etc.)

When I did my tdi felly I just used the golf external bits and kept the skoda gearbox. It was fine really just topped out around 105mph.

You could hear it with wheel and tyre sizes if it's a problem.

I didn't use an intercooler but there is room for one in front of the rad.

Did stock clutch handeled power increse or any mods on this field as well ?

Clutch had done 100k by then and handled it ok but I could provoke it to slip if I tried hard.

Thanks guys for the help !

In other words, TD it will be :)

Want to instal 1,6td fuel pump, ventos 1,9td turbo with exhaust and intake manifold, no idea for intercooler yet, but will find something :)

Hope it will decrease fuel consump a bit( ut it's not a maiun goal )... should be around around 5,5-5,8 L per 100km,(stock ,warm engine ) for this moment i can not get below 7,5 L.

That fuel consumption for 1.9D shows the engine has serious issues, not that you need a turbo.
