Brake Disc Wear

Featured Replies

What's the general opinion of mileage per set of discs?

I bought my car Jan 2015 as an Approved Skoda Used Car, and during a health check this January the front Disc's were highlighted as 'Severely Warn' by the mechanic. After numerous weeks of no-replies from the garage i finally got a call back on Friday after escalating up the chain of command. As i've only done 10k in the year, my feeling is that the discs' must have been warn to the point of requiring replacing when i bought the car, and i find it hard to believe that they have deteriorated so much in the 1 year/10k miles. Had the front wheels off and the mechanic is quite right in describing their condition.

Just after opinions at this stage. :)

What mileage has the car done, and what sort of journeys do you use it for?

I've done ~70k miles on my current discs/pads - but how long you can expect them to last depends a lot on the car and how it's used.

It's got ~63k on the clock now and my driving is primarily town inc. commuting with a few long runs (I tow a caravan a few times a year too).

Well if the car is on it's original discs then it's done quite well. A heavier car, towing a heavy trailer and town driving will put more energy/wear through the brakes.

I'd be very surprised if you got anything out of the garage for this as brakes are a consumable item. Even if the car had done 30k I think you'd struggle.
