Rear seat cover for hatchback, any ideas?

Featured Replies

As above really.

New car hopefully coming in a couple of weeks. Only thing is we often have my sister's little 5h1t (jack Russell) in the car and I don't want IT's claws damaging the leather seats.

Looking for great quality rear seat covers ftted or otherwise (I don't want cheap looking nylon type products).

Any ideas of where to look?

Boot it in the boot ! With the cover removed of course

I have had a throw tucked into the back seats for years for my 2 Shih-Tzus and have never had a problem!

Have a look on Roofbox, townandcountry, hatchbag and petsathome websites.

I have Titan Seat Covers in my MKII Octy Scout and I've been pretty impressed with them. The only thing is they don't modify them; they don't split, but I've had my front set modified by having zips placed at the rear so that I can gain access to the rear seat pockets, and a slit inserted at the headrest pillars so I can use my Skoda coat hanger. Ive had the rears modified so the top part splits, and inserts put in the bottom part for the seat belt buckles.

I'd dearly love to put IT in the boot but there are items IT would hurt itself on (shame), one being a wheel chair for the step-father.

Certain other member of the house seems to think the dog should rome free so I want to make a point of something convenient and to stress IT goes there and no where else.

Thanks for the suggestions on the sites. Found just the think on Roofbox.

You could get a small dog crate being a Jack Russell it would be small so would not take up much room in the boot. I have a dog and she is a medium sized 14kg (don't know what she is her mother was obviously not fussy) and she goes in a dog crate in the boot she does not mind it at all ! It's safer for her and other vehicle occupants as if we ( touch wood) we're in a crash she would turn into a missile with teeth. You could also say to your sister the dog goes on your lap and get a short dog belts so it could not stray to far! I not 100% sure of the law but I believe in Ireland a dog must be restrained you could say I just complying with the law.

If you decide to go for the seat cover, I strongly advise getting a seat belt harness. Even if you are never involved in a collision, the damage caused to passengers by unrestrained pets being thrown around due to severe deceleration can be quite horrific. (I had to attend a one day Road Traffic Investigation lecture as part of my CSI/SOCO course.)

I found the following on Groupon which may be of use ;

That's the thing. IT has a harness and there is a seat belt attachment in one of the rear seat sockets that IT would be clipped to but I'm banging my head on a brick wall trying to make sure it's being used when I'm not in the car.

You could super glue these on !

Good luck with those - the first time I tried them on my Cavalier King Charles I got fed up of stopping and putting them back on. By the time we made it to the pub he only had one remaining  :D

Same web site have a look at Dog Tube (small) £42.50 the little angel won't even get near the leather, even by accident. A poster on here recommended a large version for SWMBO's OES and she (the dog) loves it I think its a "my cave" thing.
