335d Xdrive am I nuts?

Featured Replies

Aspman,

about to pull the trigger on a 2015, 15,000 mile 335D X-Drive Auto 302bhp 4 Door.

Any comments on any catches, not for me, just occasionally ?

We like it.

  • Oh well bought it.   I planted my foot and left part of my brain behind I think.   Ok the car. Clearly brutally fast. 309hp 313hp isn't going to hang around. Deffo faster than the 330d but I think

  • 6 cylinder or nothing   A very strong section of my brain is shouting **** it, get the 335d.

  • I see George round the town quite often

Aspman, have you become a typical BMW owner yet and put the last 7 digits of the vin number into bmwvin.com? Just to see what the factory option list is?

I did it with this monster, it is hilarious when you have to scroll down for the options!

Nope. Mine wasn't new and I thought I knew what the extras were. Mostly around the satnav for me. 335d is relatively highly specced anyway.

Lol that 750 would be worth someone picking up to lock away for 10yr.

Lord knows how much the phone in the rear armrest would have cost.

Enjoy the shared drive George when you get the motor.

One of the cheaper options, I would have like to know how much the fridge cost!

I had the pleasure of sitting a 335d one for a trip up to newcastle and back.

Absolutely nuts on the power and very comfortable.

Had a AC Schnitzer suspension upgrade though.

Pretty good on fuel too!

Aspman, the emissions are really good for the rhubarb.

you sure I'm not related to you

ACS seem to be a popular upgrade. If I keep the car past warranty it's something I'd think about.

360hp seems to be a relatively easy upgrade as well.

I think the standard brakes are a bit of a weak point though, maybe it's that the car lacks a bit of engine braking I'm not sure. Need more bite though.

:D do I get any perks if I say yes?

Colleague had his shocks done whist the car was under warranty, got a letter from BMW stating that the rest of the car would be covered but the suspension wouldn't be if he went for an upgrade.

He's after the BHP upgrade too, but not gotten around to it yet.

  • 3 weeks later...

Just a quick question because i am not in the BMW but am being asked by the driver that is using their iphone on speaker because not getting a bluetooth connection with the car, a 2015 353d xdrive msport.

Need instruction to be 'simple'... Or does something need activating?

(reading a owners manual will be done at some point....)

cheers

select Telephone - Bluetooth Devices - Add Device. On your phone search for bluetooth devices and accept the pairing on the BMW screen

Cheers, they knew to do that as that is what they usually do, but that was not getting the required result.

I will find out later the issue & if resolved.

Bluetooth connection was pretty straightforward as I recall. Doesn't read out text messages or emails which was a bit disappointing.

Car was in for first service at Grassics in Perth on Tuesday. £275. About what I expected.

Car will need new rubber all round for winter [gulp] seems to be wearing all 4 pretty evenly.

Asked Grassics to look at the alloys because they were corroding. One badly another 2 starting to go at the centre caps (common with diamond cut alloys, avoid them if you can).

Grassics, very dismissive. "They're all refurbed so BMW will do nothing, you'll need to go back to who refurbed them".

Trundled back to John Clark in Dundee the next day and passed on said tale.

"Did they not check?" says service chap. "We can check if they're refurbed if there is no record of it they should be under warranty".

No record of refubishment (it's an ex-BMW staff car).

Chap takes a look. "they don't look refurbed to me you can tell by touching them, the centre caps are recessed on refurbs".

So car booked into John Clark for a 'corrosion check'. Next week. If it's valid they'll change the affected wheels under warranty.

That's the second time (over two cars) Grassics have just refused to even contact BMW over warranty / goodwill. But it's the dismissive attitude of the service guys I don't like.

Won't be back. In this instance the big dealer was best.

Even if the warranty doesn't come through at least Clarks made the effort to look properly.

I've had diamond cut before and never again. They all end up looking a mess.

Yeah I didn't want them but the car was used and it's not even an option to remove them new.

I didn't realise just how bad they are . I definitely made a point of checking them when I got the car and it's crazy just how far the 'mould' has spread in not quite 6 months.

The worst wheel has two tiny chips from when it has been removed. nothing you'd even see with paint.

FYI - brother's friend bought a new BMW and the alloys started to go bad.

The dealer fobbed him off with excuses.
He pasted photos on the BMW facebook page shaming them.

They gave him a brand new set of alloys and other things in compensation for it.

  • Author

Guy at work had the same. Waited 7 months on replacement wheel then shamed BMW on Twitter and he had a new set within a week.

IMHO diamond cut are not fit for the road. I'm secretly hoping they'll offer to paint them rather than replace but that's a bit of a pipe-dream I think.

I knew they wouldn't last but I had hoped they would see out the 3yr I'd likely have the car before going to bad. But the rate the 'mould' spreads under the lacquer is pretty shocking

  • Author

Nae luck. Fair play to John Clark though they did try properly.

Wheels have been through a very minor and good quality refurb (although they're still going) which means BMW won't authorise a warranty repair.

I do have alloy insurance and the wheels can be refurbed again although I was advised to hold off until they are bad. I'll get them done prior to the ins expiring.

If I'm going to keep the car a while I'll get them powder coated since diamond cut just isn't fit for use on the road. Hopefully it'll be a short lived fashion.
