All windows down

Featured Replies

Greeted by a very cold and insecure interior this morning.

Just glad it didn't rain during the night!

I can only assume this is MY fault this time, not the car playing up again.

I don't know, I had one or two occasions where a window was down, and I was convinced it wasn't me. There is a window resetting procedure you can do, which I did and haven't had any issues since. I'll see if I can find it.

Turn the ignition on, pull and hold the window switch for 3-4 seconds and release. I believe this resets the window.

If it had rained, would the windows not have closed themselves anyway - I believe that is a feature of the rain sensor...

Pressing and holding the unlock key on the fob will drop all of the windows simultaneously.

Our kids are really good at doing this sort of thing!

The window reset is usually reserved for occasions where the automatic window function loses its memory.

P'raps I sat on the key unlock button?

I'll see if I can knock this feature off on maxidot perhaps?

Bit pointless really imo

It's certainly a possibility, seeing as all of the windows dropped at the same time.

I can't remember if this feature can be knocked off via the maxidot settings, or VCDS...

I use it to remove excess heat from the car on those hot and sunny days (remember those?).

Lets hope you sat on the key. This used to be a problem on older VW group cars a few years ago which I thought they had overcome, happened to myself once.

Google "vw passat all windows down" and you'll find you're not alone.

Jeans front pocket. Done it a couple of times.

I love this feature. Put all the windows down a minute before getting into a hot car, and even better.... putting them all up as you walk away from the car, seeing that the kids have left one down.

For me I have discovered that this is entirely my own fault.  What I thought that I had done on several occasions is; get out the car, fold the key into the fob and press and hold the button to fold the mirrors and lock the doors while walking away. In fact what I did instead while walking away was; invert the fob and press and hold the unlock button down without looking which button I was pressing, which you guessed it, opens all the windows. I was usually in a rush at the time. Yes I am a Muppet. :notme:  :rain:

What is a hot sunny day?

No worries, I've been 25m up a rock face climbing, with the car 20mins slog away down a hillside prob 120m as crow flies. On reaching the top of my bit of climbing, I sit down in my harness on my belay...and watched the boot open as I'm pressing the boot switch in the process. How we laughed, shouting to people to close it for us :)

I've heard plenty of keyfob window opening tales, so you're not alone and it does not take much to sit on the fob, which the above tale illustrates, has a pretty decent range ;)
