Hi all quick question what's the list of things that can cause these engines to burn oil have had new turbo put on so that rules that out its done 106998 miles getting sick of this engine now.

How much oil is it burning? Is it smoking a lot?

No it's not smoking but it's useing from the full mark to half way between the checkerd part on the dip stick every 700/900 miles

The pds are generally good on oil ours has done 71k and have put very little in between services.

A no a few who have these cars and never touch the oil between services but this one god it's got a drinking problem lol and a thought fixing the turbo it would be sorted but no it was fine for a couple of weeks ave had it checked and it's not that so move on to the next thing.

if its not smoking you may have a leak instead. if you have the engine under tray in place it can hide oil leaks for quiet sometime before any drips start showing.

A checked for leaks and there is none but if there is well what can a say it's playing a good game of hide and seek

Well took pipe of the EGR that runs past the timing belt and there is oil in there

My 2.0pd has recently started to do this. I'm pretty sure it's down to oil being released into the boost pipes. There is certainly a lot more oil in them than there used to be.

This points to my turbo oil seals.....it's done just over 100,000 miles but as your turbo is new you'd expect the seals to be OK. Worth taking a boost pipe off and having a look.

A certainly hope not cos this is the second turbo ave had put on in the space of 4 months cos who done it the first time didn't clean anything just took old turbo off and put new one on so am praying it's not this new one

A forgot to mention that out of the exhaust it stinks the smell is horrible

My Superb 1.9pd always (from 23k->170k) used oil quickly after an oil change until it dropped to about half way down the hatched area of the dipsitck. After oil change was also prone to a bit of clutch judder .

Once it reached half way it didn't use much more, and usually didn't have to top up.  After a while I when changing the oil I asked my independant garage to only fill up to half way on the hatched area

 

Don't think this was wear as it didn't vary in the 10 years / 150k miles  I owned it

Does that not put ya oil light on cos every time it reaches that mark me light comes on the dash board

It needs to get really low to put the amber low oil light on.....below the min mark on the dipstick on both my 1.9pd and 2.0pd.

So a could have a dodgy oil pressure switch or some where along them lines

Sounds like your mechanic doesnt know what he's doing. He's probably using cheap, poorly refurbished parts, I also think I read you need to replace the oil feed pipe to the turbo as this being bunged up is the usual reason for turbo failure.

Well took pipe of the EGR that runs past the timing belt and there is oil in there

Its normal to have oil in all the boost pipes and the intercooler etc. There is a vent from the cam cover that exhausts directly into the air intake which gives everything a nice coating of oil.

 

Its not enough to get rid of large amounts of oil though unless something is wrong

Cheers forgot about that so there will always be oil in them pipes unless a put a catch can on.

There will always be a coating of oil in the boost pipes......that is normal.

 

What you don't want is puddles of oil accumulating in the boost pipes......complete with oil seepage at all the boost pipe joints which is what I've got!

This might sound stupid but how r u going to fix that

Because I know almost nothing about diesels... do they have a PCV valve?  I'd look there.
