Night-time... for idiots

Featured Replies

Our works insurance has recently insisted some changes to the rules we drive by.

When manouvering cars on site - Hazard lights to be used at all times.

When roadtesting - regardless of weather / time of day -- dipped beam headlights to be used.

It follows from a massive increase in claims both from people being "injured" by a car thats manouvering on site and also Vehicle technician involved accidents!

You mean "Now That's What I Call Music 12", the one which had the design of a swimming pool - that's going back to 1988 incidentally. The only reason I know is because I've got it on double vinyl.....

:agree: Do they not teach "See and Be Seen" any more?

Also applies to town driving where one can't see past vans parked at junction corners - lights are one's only hope. Switch 'em on! As said' date=' why wouldn't you?

Most certainly do, for failing light and also for rain, fog, etc. Why are cars fitted with sidelights anyway? They are bugger all use for visibility from out of or of the car. Should only be available as parking lights.

Drivers of all ages and experience are generally good at forgetting or not staying abreast of the law. Just a few that I would bet most people do:

Reversing off the drive.

Parking facing the wrong way after dusk.

Using headlights to flash people through or thank them.

There are plenty more, but as Robbo said, compulsory retesting every 10 years would help.

Chris

Just out of interest, do any countries have a compulsory re-test for drivers?

Quite a few do, but generally only when you reach say 60 years of age. Depending again, you then have to take another test every 5 years - when you get older still it's yearly IIRC

The only problem is that by the time someone reaches 60, they've had a lifetime of driving with bad habits. Maybe there is a case for a sort of mot test for drivers every 10 years as suggested earlier in the thread.

Yup.

Own or at least have heard most of the stuff Drummond and Cauty did together under their various guises (as well as some of their other stuff). Have also read 'The Manual', '45' and 'Bad Wisdom', but have never seen their White Room film (where they burn the £1 million)

Not that I'm obsessive, or anything... :D

Interesting is that one IMO :rubchin: As hazard lights tend to be used when a vehicle is stopped, they have been known to disguise that a vehicle is moving very slowly, especially since indicators are effectively taken out.

Out of curiosity re your site, wouldn't it pay them to employ someone to guide cars or people - at least for a while so they had a first-hand witness as to why these accidents were happening? Having someone there might also act as a reminder to use caution. Just a thought.

dunno, but i think there should definately be a reaction test when your over 60,

i work for the council and we were putting up the xmas lights in town and we had cones up to divert trafic round the side street, and i was up the cherry picker, i heard a loud bang and scraping noise, when i looked down there was an 70+ yr old in a renault scenic had drove over the cones and was dragging it down the street lodged under the car, and heading for my cherry picker...

now if that was someone that had stept out, he would have wiped them out.
