Night-time... for idiots

Featured Replies

Following on from the 'fog for idiots' thread, I'd just like to remind those people on the motorway who insist on driving in the dark on the motorway with just their sidelights on, that they're breaking the law! (Rule 93 of the Highway Code)

Not saying it's anyone on here, but three times now I've checked over my shoulder when pulling out, to find some plonker sitting in my blindspot with just their sidelights on (or in one case, only one sidelight as the other was broken! )

I don't know whether the people that do it think they're saving fuel or something, but the fact is that just because you can see the road ahead, doesn't mean you shouldn't make sure your car is visible...

Grrr... :thumbdwn:

But at least the "safety" cameras are making sure that they are not exceeding the speed limit whilst driving blind :D

Also amazes me how many people don't use main beam when they're driving down unlit country lanes! Makes overtaking them harder too :(

...or don't turn them down when you are coming the other way

Hmm indeed :(

:agree: Do they not teach "See and Be Seen" any more?

Also applies to town driving where one can't see past vans parked at junction corners - lights are one's only hope. Switch 'em on! As said, why wouldn't you?

Another thing that does my head in is people who drive on sidelights and then but their front fogs on in stead of the dipped beam. !!!????!!! why.... do they think it looks cool or something ?

Sadly, yes, I think they do... :thumbdwn:

In short to that one - they probably do :(

I rarely drive without dipped beam - sidelights are called parking lights in NL ;) Guess why that is :P

Another one for you (may not **** all off, but it does me) People parked up facing oncoming traffic with dipped beam on, especially xenons, talk about not being able to see clearly.... FFs please turn them down to sidelights whilst parked like this (my rant over)

Come to hampshire, it appears to be legal to drive with only one headlight, loads of people are doing it & they dont get stopped

or people that drive in the middle lane the whole motorway journey when there isnt car or wagon in sight i drive over 100 000 miles per year and the amount of people that i see in one night is mad

Ditto, although I only do about 65k miles per year. I like the ones who drive with no lights though

Seen loads of cars recently driving without lights. Assume they have only recently passed their tests.

Which is something I've thought for a long time:

There should not be a sidelight switch. There should be a lights switch - when the engine is running and this switch is on, headlights. Engine not running, side lights (or parking lights which does seem a much better term).

yep, every morning when taking swmbo to work, its the guess how many cars with no lights on, we'll see this morning, game. 4 this morning within about 500 yards.

best ones are when its foggy too.

makes life(and probably death) more interesting for them, i suppose:rolleyes:

cheers

jonno.

Yeah that makes sense - in some countries it's wired so this is what happens, IIRC one or several of the Scandinavian ones do this.

Completely agree also with the using parking lights when parked up rather than dipped beam (or worse, main beam  ) when parked up. And for some reason, just to add to it, the same thing also applies to those who think it's a good idea to turn their car in before they are able to drive off to the right, i.e. blinding you completely as their lights are pointing straight towards you, doesn't even need main beam then :(

Yup! Given it's either illegal or against the highway code (either way it's wrong).

There are enough accidents waiting to happen without adding to them IMO.

(extracted)

Just to add also, it's dangerous for cars following as well. I guess one learns from experience that people do this - I don't know why people think it's OK to stray into another lane

People who have their rear fog light/s on at night when its clearly not foggy, they are so bright its constantly taking ur attention from where it should be.

People who drive with their indicators still stuck on? Not only dangerous, but how can you see its not still on!! argh lol.

People who drive yellow cars, my friend and i play the 'yellow car' game. For those who arn't up to strach with how this works.. See a yellow car, shout "yellow car" and punch the person nearest to you. It really hurts after a while :(

Remember the short lived experiment called dim-dip? They worked in a similar manner, IIRC.

...or don't turn them down when you are coming the other way

or dont dip after you have passed them...

i totally agree with all the coments, especially the side lights or no lights in the fog, really makes me mad, i dont know what these people are thinking, (or if they are capapable of thought) i very rarely have my side lights on, iv driven in sweden during the winter and it kinda sticks with you, their dip is on all the time over there.

Dont get me started !!!!! Fog lights, Seat belts, mobiles !!!

People just dont know the traffic laws and some, mainly kids, ignore them.

Compulsory re - tests after 10 years !!!
