Turning ESP Off (2010 Octy vRS FL)

Featured Replies

Hi,

Trying to turn ESP off on my Octy Mk2 vRS (2010 FL model).

Firstly, the button in the centre console is the car skidding icon which I assume is ESP.

Secondly, pressing the button once does nothing, I need to hold it.

When I hold it, the ESP (car skidding light) on the cluster starts flashing. In previous cars the equivalent would stay lit.

This goes against the Skoda manual as well which says flashing "indicates a control cycle has been activated" but helpfully doesn't tell you what that is.

Car is 100% fault code free.

Can somebody explain please?

Cheers

As standard you can only disable ASR (traction control) and ESP will remain enabled.

I suspect that it's all working as normal and the manual isn't 100% correct...

I'll check to see what mine does on tonight but it may be different as I've got maxidot and enabled two stage ESP defeat (short press turns off ASR where as a long press turns off ESP as well) but not all ABS pumps support it.

Mine stays on steady. Funnily enough I was experimenting with it today.

My old golf flashed when I pressed the button and other golfs it has stayed lit.

I think the function is the same but you get either steady or flashing depending on model/year etc.

Weird, it makes no sense why they'd behave differently. It's the "indicates a control cycle has been activated" bit in the manual that confuses me.

Checked tonight and I have similar behaviour to Vegasphi - when ASR or ESP are disabled the light stays lit without flashing.

If you press the ESP button very quickly, nothing happens.

A slightly slower press (maybe a tenth of a second) disables ASR with a notification shown on the maxidot and the ESP light lit.

A long press (maybe 1-2 seconds) disables ESP with a notification shown on the maxidot and the ESP light lit.

All I can suggest is that you post up your cluster information (from VCDS) to see if someone with the same cluster also has a flashing ESP light when it's disabled.

Is this the one you're after?

No fault code found.

I've just done a quick search and only found one other autoscan with that cluster. It belongs or belonged to another member on the forum http://www.briskoda.net/forums/user/65245-deep-vrs/ They haven't been online for almost 9 months so may no longer have the car.

I'd probably just make sure that ASR does kick in when you expect it to and that when disabled it doesn't.

First one is easy to check if it's damp, second one might be harder to check as ESP might get involved. Closed road/track would be good here ;)
