Fabia 1.4 mpi - Went to a dealer cars got some issues?

Featured Replies

Hi,

So just came back from a dealer as I popped in as they had a Fabia and it was one of the cars on my list to perhaps purchase. As it's my second car and the first I purchased off a family member it's actually the first time I've been to a dealer.

Anyway I had a look at the car couldn't test drive it today and saw this on the left (in this case drivers side as im in Portugal) back wheel:

1. What I'd like to know is what are both these things called

2. If its a problem on a 2000 fabia with ~83k miles.

Heres the car on a website: http://auto.sapo.pt/Carros/Skoda-Fabia-14-Sport-(101cv)-(5p)-1780255.aspx

BTW: I am in Portugal but can't actually write in Portuguese hence why I am asking on here.

Thanks.

Rare to even see them still attached!

Not really a problem.

It's a bump stop and dust/dirt cover really

Rear bump stops, often wear out and the cover drops down. New bump stops required, less than £10 each.

I 'fixed' one on my missus's car the other day with superglue...

Official names "stop buffer" and "protective pipe", items 4 and 12 here. Don't know how you tell which of the part numbers for item 4 you should have, but can't see it mattering much. There probably isn't anything wrong with the pipe, it just push-fits over the last bit of the stop buffer.

Shock absorber has to come off to change it, hence the superglue (lazy) approach.

You don't need to replace the plastic dust cover, only the bump stop. They sort of screw/push into the dust cover and simply push into the damper top mounting.

The part number for the bump stop is 6Q0512131B

This is what often happens...

Cheers I've learn't something! Also what do you generally think of this trim year?

Thanks.

Are you sure it's a 1.4 MPI? There's no way the 8 valve MPI could be described as a 'Sport' model. Mine is just about the slowest car I've ever owned (but reliable).

Good spot Lee. 101cv is going to be a 100 bhp AUB engined 16-valve isn't it? CV = cavalos = horses.

That's a lot of money for a 16 year old car even with that mileage.

Just under £2k sterling seems a lot yeah. Don't know if that's normal for Portugal though - the country's population is only 10 million (UK is 65), and the better climate probably keeps rust etc. away for longer, so maybe these push prices up?  I'm guessing here...
