BKD Head Replacement Timing Problem

Featured Replies

Hello

I'm in the middle of changing the head on my '09 Octavia L&K 2.0 BKD, I've followed the ElsaWin instructions but now that the head is fitted and timed up, it locks up just after TDC when turning the engine by to check everything is okay.

Having a look on Google, I've found the firing order is 1-3-4-2 which could possibly mean that the problem is with cylinder 1, the injector rocker arm or a roller rocker misplaced??

HELP!!!!!!!

I don't understand your problem.

How did you find it is timing problem?

Why did you remove head in first place?

Timing starts with timing belt, did you check it?

Did you check diagnostic before you stripped your car?

If the crank locking tool is in place do the pins slide into the camshafts?

I had to change the head as the timing belt tensioner stud sheered off causing damage to Cylinder 3 exhaust valve and tappets. The crank was set at TDC and the cams were placed in TDC as per ElsaWin instructions and then timed to TDC once secured in place and the sprockets were on.

Having investigated further, the engine locks up about 90* past TDC and a metallic clunk is heard from around the area of Cylinder 1 exhaust cam. I've taken the timing belt off and moved the crank and both cams separately to ensure that they all spin freely and they do. Having gotten the head from a salvage engine, I checked the head for any signs of damage before fitting. Looking at the spare block I have, it locks up when all 4 pistons are level in the block so I don't think it can be valve to piston contact. I've also removed the injector rocker arm to be sure that isn't causing the problem.

I don't want to have to remove the head again but I don't think I'm going to have a choice......

Cheers
