Boost pipe

Featured Replies

Hi i have a fabia mk1 vrs and my top boost pipe has popped off the intercooler any way of holding it together so it dont pop off again

Proper way is to just replace the pipe, the lugs wear down and start popping off.

Ive seen people try and stop them popping off by...

- Putting heat shrink around it.

- Putting self tapping screws into them.

- Putting cable ties around each side and then linking them together.

- Putting silicone sealant around them.

You could try proper Terry Jubilee clips instead of the standard spring clips.

Where would you put the jubilee clip?

Maybe we're not thinking of the same joint(s)? Some of the joints on the cars I've seen have sprung clips wrapped round them, and on mine they've been replaced with proper Jubilees.

Mine popped off on Saturday, lugs proper sheared I am lucky enough to have a diy boost pipe that I had bought for me at chirstmas got the clamps today so as soon as better weather is in in fit it. Look at pinned post for diy boost pipe!

Couple of well placed self-tapper screws, or alternative replace pipe-work.

Botch job or fix properly??

I did mine with self tappers (4 at 90 degree angles) The bottom hose was the problem but also did the top at the same time as a preventitive measure ....no trouble since. The pipe had been replaced by Skoda 18 months before and started coming off again, as the the pipe joint is alloy and the intercooler is plastic I imagine the intercooler must incur an amount of wear too and to replace the lot plus seals and clips comes to a stupid amount of money. (Incidently I also have an old 100HP ATD estate the pipes on that have the old fashioned jubilee clips and they have never been a problem!!)

The bottom boost pipe joint, only a small section of pipe was where mine decided to give up the ghost. I'm fairly sure the quote from Skoda was £125ish. At first I had misheard the sales person and said "oh that's not as bad as I was expecting, is that £25 including vat?", he chuckled and replied "no, it is £125 including vat". I nearly laughed in disbelief.

I couldn't find the part for less than £110, so instead it was the drill and four self tappers later... No problems since.
