RED Low Oil Pressure indication on revving over 2000rpm

Featured Replies

Just done a few jobs on my Octavia II L&K Combi 2.0 140 PD, BKD manual, new rear wheel bearing/hub, rear pads and cleaned up disc edges, decided I would fit that new EGR valve that I had bought about 3 months ago, took the opportunity of cleaning out the throttle valve V157 ? as well. Who do they get to design the installation of these components, star cap screws are almost inaccessable, struggled through anyway.  Fired it all up left ticking over for 15 minutes to get temps up, and with VCDS connected checked measuring blocks, all good for the EGR valve and functioning as intended to specification.  I revved the engine to 2000rpm and immediately got a low oil pressure warning on the display and shut down immediately.

Left it for 10 mins to drain down, checked oil level (only had oil/filter change 6 weeks before by myself) found level in middle range, added 500ml. and restarted, all good left to tick over for 5 minutes all reading fine, revved it again same Red Low Oil Pressure indication, shut down immediately.

Now I am pretty sure this is a pressure sesnsor malfunction, as I understand this model does not suffer from oil pump issues, but clearly I can't take that chance.

I have heard of blocked pick up tubes causing similar issues, now I don't really want to drop the sump to investigate but it is looking likely unless I can confirm I have good oil pressure, I am wondering if anyone has suffered the same issues and how it panned out.

Thinking of putting manual gauge into oil gallery in filter housing to directly read pressure, plenty available but they all seem to be in BSP threads not metric which is what the Skoda is I believe  Also, I am sure I read somewhere that there are two oil pressure sensors a low pressure and a high pressure, so the indication would sufggest the high pressure sensor is at fault, anyone know where this is located ?

Bought an oil pressure test kit, plumbed it in - zero oil pressure on cranking. Decided to remove sump and have a look, removed pick-up and found it totally blocked with silicon sludge from the sump sealant used during assembly by Skoda, way too much sealant used.  Washed out pick-up with petrol and allowed it to dry, ordered correct sealant from Skoda Stealer - 2 day delivery !

Replaced oil filter, putting it back together Saturday if the sealant turns up.

Asked them if they had any Main Cap bolts - nope, thought I might remove a Main cap and inspect the shells, not now - cant wait for bolts.
