Oil sensoir on bottom of engine, connector issue

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

This is concerning a 2004 Skoda Octavia Estate Now Van Conversion :-) which some of you may have seen.

I noticed over the past few days the orange oil light blips on after ive started the car, i checked the oil level and it was a little low due to the sump plug not being tight enough, my bad :-) this didnt solve the issue as it bliped back on, i looked under the car when i went to tighten the sump plug and i noticed the connector for the sensor hanging off. Eureka i thought, that might be the cause, and tooking at the chunk of mud on the mounting on the underside of the engine i grounded out on a track somewhere (i know where and considering the van was laden with possibly half a ton of steel shelving, im not at all surprised it was a little lower than normal) the clip which holds the sensor on has broken away so now the connector doesn't hold properly, ive slid it back on, but one knock and it'll be out again.

My questions are:

1. Can I just get a new connector, from ebay for instance, and what are they technically called?

2. Will this cause any issues if it keeps popping off or just the said orange oil light coming on?

Many Thanks In Anticipation

I'm not sure which, but that's either oil level or oil quality.

In the first case, it's a "nice to have" and in the second it only matters if you're using "variable service intervals".

I think it's just a level sensor. From the pictures I can find of them online the connector is integrated, so you'd have to replace the sensor (and the oil will come out!).

If you regularly check your oil level anyway, you could just replace the sensor when you next change the oil.
