Sorry guys - another Fabia VRS Chipping Insurance Question

Featured Replies

Hopefully this is a new one. However all advice greatfully received.

Have just bought a VRS - Take deliverey hopefully next week - wooooooooo

The car will be totally standard.

Now I have spoke to More Than (My current Insurer) about chipping the vehicle in future. Their response was - if you do we cannot cover you :thumbdwn:

Worst still the premiums will DOUBLE from my 12v for the same cover.

Does anyone know a decent mainstream insurance co that won't charge an arm and a leg to cover the car when my current insurance runs out. I'm 38, low risk occupation, have full NCD, clean licence (touch wood) live in a low risk area and the car is either drivewayed or garaged.

Most importantly the company must be 'Chip Friendly'.

Cheers

John

Chris Knott through the banner ad will, but I'm not sure if they are "mainstream". Tesco, DirectLine and Privilege certainly would cover chipping/remapping, but you'd have to contact them to get a tailored quote as our circumstances are quite different :D

I dont want to sound like an advert, but I had the same problem with mine, so at renewal time, I rang Chris Knot who advertise on this site. They quoted me very happy, so perhaps worth a call. And you get a discount for being a briskoda member.

I got a very good quote from Tesco and Co-op for my mods.

Chris Knott quoted me rubbish.

It was a toss up between Adrian Flux and Greenlight.

Greenlight won in the end by quite a margin.

i got lucky. got a quote with zurich over the net for a vrs with a dragon box on it, just over 500 quid. took out the policy, when paperwork came threw it had no mods on in. rung up to change it they said i never declaired the box in original quote and it would cost nearly 800 with box. i argued the toss and they said they would look into it. they got back to me a week later and said there was a mistake with there internet service and i did state the box originaly. anyway it was there falt and i got the insurence with box for the 500 quid price!!! how lucky was that!

how lucky was that!

They'll make sure they charge

Greenlight or Brentacre are both good for modified cars.

I am currently insured through Brentacre who will quote a price based on engine power alone - you can do any other modifications to your car (brakes, suspension etc) at no extra cost.

I'm sure that most insurance companies use a random number generator for their quotations anyway - I've had variations in price of over

I'm with Brentacre and they're very mod friendly as said already they go by engine power and the difference for me between 130bhp and 180bhp is only £200 for the year which is good compared to other companies I had quotes for but if you go for a remap they normally add around 30bhp extra so wouldn't pay a huge amount more. I am only 20 though with 1yrs no claims so you'd obviously you'd get it alot cheaper than I did. They get a big thumbs up from me though.
