New battery fitted today

Oh dear!

It's coming.

looks like you have one with a barcode on it, have you told the car it received a new battery by updating the battery the serial number in the battery regulator ecu?

What?

You need to ask that ?

You have posted in enough threads that pertain to it so should be able to answer with a few more words.

THREAD RESURRECTION ALERT

Two and a half years on ....

I see one of the contributors, "speedsport" hasn't visited since July - someone else will know if he's moved on.  But he did happen to point us all to another battery thread which was as useful and helpful as this one ....    " If anyone's thinking of buying a new battery for their Yeti, I'd strongly recommend having a look at a previous thread on the subject HERE. "

Anyway, I was just going to say that my Yeti 1.2 petrol Yeti is still here and it still has the same battery.  I was wondering, at the time this thread was current, whether to change the battery just as a precaution, but didn't ... and nothing terrible happened ... as still hasn't happened - the battery feels fine (although there's a little window on top of the battery that apparently tells me if the level is OK and it says if it's black it's OK and if it's clear the battery needs changing ---- and to be honest I can't decide what colour it is, so that's no help).

Euro Car Parts batteries seem really expensive compared to when we discussed batteries above. But the Varta Blue Dynamic 027  [D24]   (same as what's on there now) is better priced at Battery Megastore where it's £69 delivered.  ECP are quite a bit more for a similar battery .... an Exide Excell with almost the same specs is £119. Apparently the Varta is a rebadged Bosch S5 battery.

How often do Euro Car Parts have their sales? Might be worth waiting?

Am only looking as we're having a cold snap and, as we know, that's when a dickie battery will let you know it's not happy and I want to be prepared for the worst.

Have I missed anything?

have a look at Tewkesbury batteries, they came up with a good price on a battery for my kit car, their French associated company price matched it too!!

It looks like when you type Tewkesbury Batteries in ... in takes you to Battery Megastore - who I just mentioned and were the best price I came across after, admittedly, only a few minutes looking.

Who is the French company?

Its usually a constant feature, like the old DFS furniture sales.

Try https://www.tayna.co.uk

Tayna were dearer.

I'll look out for ECP's sales .... I'm going right next door to one of their branches tomorrow and will pop in and ask (if they're open).

Ask them to price match www.carparts4less.co.uk (with their current discount code) which is their sister company

Thanks.

I just had a quick Google and immediately found a code (WEEKEND37) which reduced the Excell battery to £75

Cheaper at carparts4less

CarParts for Less has the Excell for £65.619, as opposed to ECP who are £75 WITH THE 37% OFF VOUCHER.      (£119 without the voucher.)

So Carparts4less win the day.

Great advice  ... thanks. I may well pop in to ECP tomorrow and quote the CP4L price of £65.61 and pick one up if they have one.  At £65 I don't mind replacing it after 7 years.

The Varta has an extra year's warranty (4 yrs) but maybe I'll live dangerously for once :-)

Carparts4less voucher code spooky17 for 17% off. £65.61

Even less if you buy through Topcashback or quidco

Yes, just spotted that and changed my post to reflect it. Many thanks.

Yup, had a look and can see that too.  Can't imagine why it won't be fine.

Is it a couple of mm longer?

Actually oldstan, you must have used an old voucher code for ECP

Halloween80 gets 40% off batteries which would make yours 10p cheaper!

Voucher codes for ECP and CP4L are always on their home page.

Thanks again .... I did go to Screwfix today to pick something up, and would have bought the Excell at £65.61 if ECP (which is next door to SF) has been open .... which they weren't.

No great rush though as the battery isn't actually showing obvious signs of tiredness.  It was just that winter seems to have arrived and we know that if it's going to fail it'll go at the most inconvenient moment - and the battery is seven and a half years old and £65 isn't a fortune.

Just to acknowledge the assistance and provide a final update:

Decided to go for the Varta Blue Dynamic 027 (they call it D24). It's 60 AH / 540 CCA. Very close in spec to the existing Varta that was on there from new, which is 60AH / 480CCA. Same physical size.

Ordered from Battery Megastore who do next day delivery and have price-matched "Batteries On The Web". Price inc VAT and delivery is £67.50 and it has a 4 year warranty rather than the Exide's 3 years (although it's probably unlikely I'll still have the yeti in for years time ... that would make it 11 years.)

^ Which site did you mean?

in Tewkesbury, been also looking on another forum for the ref without luck! - sorry

Ah ... I'm with you.

The Battery Megastore site shows an address in Tewksbury.

They seemed OK when I rang this morning ... no fuss about price-matching  (which is understandable as it was only a small difference - but it's the principle of the matter, is it not ?  ) .... and the fella was pretty confident that it would be here tomorrow.

I'm sure the Exide would have been fine from Carparts4less / EuroCarParts but the extra year warranty on the Varta was an attraction for just a pound or so more. A Bosch would have been equally good  but we're told that Varta and Bosch are much the same now so a bit swings and roundabouts.

Anyway, I think we're sorted and not likely to need another battery on the Yeti.

It's possible I would consider a Kia Niro next time.

I don't have anything against Skoda but they don't sell anything as suitable as the Yeti at the moment and the Niro is a similar size and is automatic and has a 7 yr warranty so, without having driven one, it seems to fit the bill at the moment.

The Draper item that I own is now re-named and called "CarPoint" ....

Draper, however, do a different model now. Same principle but there's a separate unit plus a cig. plug.....

Presumably there's a little bit of electronic wizardry to allow the test/isolate red button to work.

I take the battery off one of our Yeti's maybe 3 times a year - never had a problem (with the 'codes") or anything else, when I have put the battery back after a month or so.

A question - If however, when you disconnect the battery and want to keep a current running through the system, cannot this be done with a normal trickle charger - red to positive connection and black to a good earth? - I have done this with a BMW 3 series, which are much more susceptible to interruptions in the electrical supply to the vehicles systems

Only if it is a proper voltage regulated and smoothed dc supply (12.5  - 14.0 volt dc max) with no ac component and sufficient current capacity to keep the electronics alive which can wake even when the ignitions is off and draw a couple of amps, albeit briefly. e.g when infotainment sends vehicle data to skoda connect database. Otherwise you risk very expensive damage. Many cheap trickle chargers are little more than a transformer plus rectifier and current limiting resistor and output rectified ac voltage that can peak to 27+ volts without a battery to clamp the voltage.
