Plastic film on rear door?

Featured Replies

My white VRS that I picked up is getting filthy. I just noticed that there is some kind of rigid plastic film on the cars she'll at the bottom corners of the rear doors. The leading edge of these are now a black line on my white car. At first I thought it might be delivery protection but it seems quite thick. Has anyone got any ideas??

To be clear if you look at the rear pasenger side door it is in the bottom right between the sills the wheel and the inside of the door. Its a proper mess!

Stonechip protection. Lots of cars have them.

It's hideous!!

Without them, the rust will look a whole lot worse. Skoda tried not having them on the early Yetis, now these early owners are having paint issues on the lower door.

Skoda have fitted them to the MK2 and MK3 Octavia, my Audi A8 also has them on the lower sills. Removal will invalidate your paint protection and body corrosion warranty.

Thanks for that! Just found them a bit odd looking on the side of the car. My Leon didn't have them, in fact I don't remember any of my previous cars having them with maybe the exception of a Nissan xtrail.

They are hideous and show up big time with the dirt accumulating.

Thanks for the replies guys

Only really a problem on a white car. Dont really see them on darker colours.

Well isn't that just tip top!!! ;)

It's there because the rear of the car flares slightly wider and is prone to stone hits.  It's not uncommon.  Think of the black patches on Porsche rear wheel arches for example.

If you wax the car and don't buff this area very carefully you'll get white lines around the edge of the film, this might be your solution.
